What's the best way to remember and recite information almost word for word?

Are there any tips and tricks?

For example, I want to be able to pick a topic, and then read the information on it and be able to RECITE that information of the top of my head, almost word for word.

How do people do this?

What's your reasoning for wanting to recite it versus summarising or paraphrasing it? Sometimes it's easier to convert it into your own words, that work for your brain and the connection you make in doing so, so that it's easier to recall later.

When I needed to recite something, it was mainly for languages e.g. speaking exam at GCSE. For this, I'd write out a chunk on a whiteboard and slowly erase words until I could recall the text with no/minimal prompts in front of me.
