A Level Maths Pearson/edexcel textbook

The year 1 and year 2 maths textbook for maths is SO WEIRD. Why do they make the first chapter algebraic expressions when in the specification its proof first? in addition to this why is the first test algebra and functions ???? there are no functions in the first topic. Edexcel cmon now

The earlier chapters in the textbook builds the necessary skills required for the later chapters. You won't be able to do a proof question without having to know basic algebraic manipulation. When you talk about algebra and functions, are you talking about it in terms of the spec? Functions is a year 2 topic
