A-level German Study Group 2023-2024

:hello: Welcome to the A-level German Study Group! :hello:

This is where you can chat with other students studying the same subjects as you and support each other as you head towards your exams :grouphugs:

You can post any useful tips and resources that you come across, offer support to others, share your successes, or just have moan when it gets tough!

Just remember, it’s against the site rules to ask for or offer any copyrighted papers, or to take conversations off-site to do these things. Posts that break these rules will be removed.

A few possible ice breaker questions are:
What exam board are you with?
What do you enjoy most about this subject/ course?
What area do you struggle with in this subject/ course?

Good luck with the next few months. Remember, ask for help, support where you can and together we can do this! :yeah:

Hi I’m doing AQA too!
But I’m going to be doing der Vorleser and Goodbye Lenin!
I’ve only just started so can’t say what my favourite topic is yet
Hello! I am also doing AQA  I have loved German since year 7 and am still enjoying it luckily! We are studying Der Vorleser, which I have already read because I bought it about a year ago, not knowing it was on our syllabus! I am not sure about the film though...

I really enjoy grammar a lot but it is very hard - we have just done cases and adjective endings which we touched upon in GCSE but not in much detail at all and my brain is broken now lol. :colondollar: When do you start our IRP? My teacher has said that we are aiming to finish it by the end of year 12. I am thinking of doing it on Vergangenheitsbewältigung, perhaps to do with the psychological effect of the guilt and war on German society now, or how Germany has tried to "make amends" or something like that!

As always German is the smallest language in any language department.

Every day, after vocab, I try to integrate into German society like watching german media and everyday I get reminded of how bad I am at this. It's not going well guys.

Ich bin auch der einzige deutsche A-Level Schüler in meinem Jahrgang. It's sad that not as many people study the subject :frown:(

hii, i'm rona
i'm doing aqa with goodbye lenin and der vorleser

i'm deffo struggling with german as a whole right now, mainly because i have half the teacher contact compared with my other a-levels

i haven't actually started my irp yet, but it's the bit i'm most looking forward to, because it's about something i'm interested in (freud)
Hello!! I'm doing Andorra and Goodbye Lenin, and was wondering if anyone knows some good resources for either of them (especially Andorra, since we started it late ☹️ ) Also, if anyone has IRP ideas I'm stuck on what the hell to do 😭

i do andorra and there's some useful youtube videos, and there's also the textbook/workbook if you don't already have that. for irp, there's so many possibilities, for example i'm doing mine on a german netflix series, but u could one on another film, book, german healthcare, car companies, beer, sigmund freud etc.

Hi I just started my a-level German and I am currently assigned to work on Der vorleser and Das leben der Anderen. If there is any resources or advice given it would be very helpful because I am struggling to find any since not many people do the subject for A-level.

I personally use Memorise for the majority of my vocab. It's free and has a community list of the AQA Hoddler German A-Level book. I would say it's a great resource. I aim for about 5 new words per day or about 10 minutes.

I study none of your texts, but a quick search of all of the community courses for Das Leben Der Anderern displays over 10 courses (all varying in quality though). Bear in mind, you have to create an account which in my opinion is a tell tail sign of the hyper-consumerist surveillance capitalist conspiracy... (rants in socialism)

Other resources I use is Quizlet, You can also find flash cards of many German A-Level things there, including your texts. I use Quizlet because it's so easy to create flash cards. I comes in when it comes to converting a verb table into flash cards.

Would anyone be interested in a German version of the TSR Study Together sessions? If a few people are interested, I'll create a thread!
