Question on UCAS points

So when do students usually start collecting UCAS points? Like in Year 11 or 12?

What are UCAS points and what's the best way to get them if you want to do medicine?

Most UCAS points come from A levels, but you can do things such as music exams to get some but for medicine, most unis will probably be looking at your grades and UCAT / BMAT results, not UCAS points so you'd be far better off getting relevant work experience and making sure you do your best in your exams

UCAS points are collected during college so in Year 12 and Year 13. UCAS points are points you receive for getting certain grades in your exams which you can use to apply to universities that accept UCAS Points in lieu of traditional grades..
For A Level:
A* = 56 Points
A = 48 Points

For AS Level (Year 12 Exams)
A = 20 Points
B = 16

Most students receive points after their final A Level exams in Year 13 as they are actual public exams that you take and receive a certificate for after completion.
In Year 12 unless you are doing a subject where public exams take place it is very unlikely for you to receive points as they will be mostly mocks and internal exams. Make sure to clarify with your teacher if it is an A Level or AS Level course and if you will receive UCAS Points for it or not.

For medicine it is very rare for universities to accept UCAS Points instead they set out a grade requirement e.g. A*A*A however some courses may outline on their course requirement page that they accept UCAS Points in which case they can be helpful. I would advise you to check a university website with your chosen courses and find out if they accept UCAS points or not.
