I didn't do a foundation year when I studied at Hope but I know a few bits about it that may be helpful for you.
The foundation year itself is more focused on general skills than subject specifics. You will be with people on the same course or a similar course but the foundation year itself focuses more on improving things such as academic writing and research skills, as well as presentation abilities and teamwork etc. Essentially all the soft skills that will help you in your degree.
