Should I mention that I participated in the Immerse education essay competition in my ps? I heard many said that it's a marketing gimmick which reflects badly on ur ps if u mention abt it but my sch advisor told me that the point of me including it in my ps is js to reflect my passion for the subject and the extra reading and effort I've put in. Or should I js mention that I participated in an essay competition (like don't specify the name of the competition)

The topic of your PS is YOU. Listing competitions isn’t that important. Putting details about what you DID in competitions and what you enjoyed and learned from the experience is. Universities want specifics and reflection on your experiences not boasting.
Yes, it's better to mention that you participated in the Immerse Education essay competition by name in your personal statement. Being specific makes it easier for the person reading your statement to understand exactly what you've done.
Including the name shows you're being honest and clear about your achievements. It also highlights your passion for the subject and the effort you've put into it. This can leave a positive impression on the admissions team.

It all depends on how you frame it. If you can demonstrate intellectual curiosity, initiative, and creative expression through your participation, then it could be beneficial to mention it. To highlight these aspects, you could talk about the challenges you faced while writing the piece. For instance, you could mention a specific passage you struggled with and how you overcame this struggle. Showing admissions officers your grit and perseverance can be key.
