Should Lord of the Rings be part of the GCSE English syllabus?
I think that Lord of the Rings doesn’t contain that many of the themes that are often studied in other modern texts that can be studies. Apart from being well-constructed, it’s also classed as part of the YA or middle grade genre, which immediately excludes it from the syllabus. However, I do remember reading The Hobbit in KS3.
