Work Experience

I’m in year 12 and i’m being told to look at work experience in preparation for my work experience week next june. I want to go into the media/ journalism industry and i have found work experience however they are all virtual and only take up to 8 hours to complete does this still count as proper work experience? And does anyone have any advice on how to find it if not.

I have no experience in this field but would suggest that it would be better to try and get an in-person placement somewhere. The online experience you mentioned would likely be a good addition but proper experience would be shadowing someone in the industry you’re in. In a quick search I found this offered by The Times: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/static/digital-work-experience/ . Otherwise maybe you have a local newspaper/magazine/radio show you could approach to ask if you can get experience with them?
