Best art foundation course

I am trying to decide to which Art Foundation course I should apply so I can apply to improve my portfolio for a Fine Art BA application next year.
Can anyone share their experience of doing an Art Foundation Course?
Where to do it?
I don't mind anywhere in the UK.
Thank you!!!

Hi! I'm currently doing UAL's foundation course in Art and Design and it's helped me a lot. It's especially good that you know you want to do Fine Art because you can apply specifically for their Fine Art foundation pathway. I've also heard that Kingston is good, but I personally didn't like the way they asked for portfolio work to be submitted. Good luck with whichever ones you apply to!

Hi TamzinNM,
it sounds exciting to be in UAL Art & Design foundation. I wish you good luck in your career path. I’am also planning to apply for the same foundation course as I am interested in interior design or communication. Do you have any suggestions about application process, personal statement and portfolio content to get an offer please?

Have you read the FAD FAQ thread at the top of the art and design forum? The first post lists out most of the largest FAD universities.

Hi kozfirat, thank you! I'd say if you want to maximise your chances of getting in, apply for one of the specialist foundation pathways, but if you're really keen on doing diagnostic or don't want to narrow it down yet that's fine too. One important thing is to make sure your personal statement is relevant to your portfolio, talk briefly about any themes you've explored in your art and why.
Another thing I would recommend is to show lots of experimentation in your portfolio - a few observational studies are good to show technical skill, but at UAL they are really interested in creativity and a willingness to try new things and explore mediums. If you want more advice there is some good portfolio advice on the UAL website. Good luck with your application!
