they’ve only started giving out engineering and physics interviews a day or two ago meaning they’ve marked the pat now, so should probably expect them to start giving materials interviews in the next few days

Yeah from Birmingham and Sheffield , and Manchester was an interview. Also, did you apply to UCL with the same personal statement for Materials science?
