Hi ok, so I am currently doing English Lit at A-Level. We are starting our coursework and need to look at texts we want to do. One must be a book and one must be pre-1900. I really loved the virgin suicides and it's presentation of women, especially through the male gaze of the 'boys'.

However, I am really struggling to find any pre-1900 books/texts I can compare to on this theme of men controlling women through narrative or just control.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you xx
