So my college teachers think I am clever for A Levels but family don't think I am cut out for education and put me down and say I am too stupid for A Levels just because I failed one AS exam.

Your heart. That's what you listen to. Also the people who have taught people for decades and know by now who is likely to suceed and who is likely to fail. You want to get a better education? Get one. Sod the naysayers.
