Montague Burton

I'm expecting to receive an offer for marketing or digital media (undergrad) at the University of Leeds for 2024

I think I'd want to apply for the Montague Burton accomodation, have any students got insight?

Current student here,
Montague Burton is a great accomodation choice. It's about 5 minutes from the university and has one of the largest communal areas out of all the accomodations. If you apply you will be in one of two flats, a flat of 4 or 9. It's known as one of the more social accomodations as many flats will host pres (especially in freshers) but it's not a party accomodation.
The rooms are large for the price and is probably the best budget accomodation the university has.

Flaws is that it's further from the city venture, which could be a problem if you like going out a lot.
It also has a bit more security with a large gate being in front of the entrance which you need your key for, which is good for security but a nightmare if you loose your key so you need to be extra careful with it.

hey can i ask you if you know anything about the charles morris accomodation? ive heard some bad things about students being stuck up, all knowing each other + unwilling to make new friends. im currently deciding between central village and cm as i want to be quite close to campus but im now considering montague burton. based off your experience which would you say is the most sociable + well known for holding lots of events ect

Hiya!
I have a good friend who lives in Charles Morris atm and their one of the most chilled and down to earth people I know. I've been inside the accommodation and while it's very convenient since it's on campus, it's probably got the most inconvenient layout inside of all the ones I've been in. In my opinion not worth what your paying but others could disagree.

From the sounds of it you want a social accomodation? If you have the budget for it then you want central village. It's one of the more party accomodations due to it being close to the city centre and is also convenient to the uni. Also recommend looking at city side as it's basically exactly the same accommodation just in a slightly older building/cheaper. As long as you can deal with the stairs/lift you'll probably be ok.

Monty B is a great budget accomodations, possibly the best one, and has a very homely vibe. The main reason why people are chill is because your unlikely to get a bunch of rich snobs as they tend to go more expensive.
Honestly though housing is mostly a roulette with which flatmates you get. I'm in Monty B and love my flat as everyone gets along, but a friend in the same accomodations is with a group of highly judgemental people with conservative and old fashioned views.

An important consideration for Monty B though that many don't know about. Our residents life is STRICT. Because we only have 3 floors it is easier for them to check for noise outside the flat and they WILL do rounds each night to make sure people aren't making noise. Many people don't take it too seriously, but it can interrupt a night out and people I know have had disciplinary action against them.

I'm biased towards Monty B because I love it, but if I went back to the start of uni with a non-limited budget then I would be in central village or city side.

thank you sm for the help !!
so for cityside is that shared with students from other universities?
and central village was originally my top choice that i was so set on choosing, but ive heard that because its so oversubscribed every year nobody gets it and ends up somewhere else - im a bit worried about that.
didnt realise monty b is shared bathrooms either - im set on ensuite self catered!

I'm not sure if city side is shared, everyone I know in there is uni of Leeds. If not though it shouldn't effect your experience at all.

I'm afraid the rumours about central village being oversubscribed are true, but typically they will put you into the most closest/fitting accommodation that isn't your first choice, meaning a lot of people who choose central village get into city side, Henry Price to Monty B etc.

When choosing your accomodation you'll be asked things such as budget, parking, distance and bathroom type etc. You can try and use this to fix yourself into a certain accommodation.

Since you don't need to go for the lower priced accomodations from the sounds of it, your chances of getting central village actually go up, since students who put on a lower budget are deemed priority for Monty B, Henry Price and Lupton.
Basically don't be afraid to put Central Village as your choice, since even if you don't get it you'll likely end up in either city side or Charles Morris anyway.

Best of luck to you xx
