A mother and her daughter

The relationship between a teenage girl and her mother is indescribable.
The girl wanting to tell her mother things
But not for her mother to interrogate and know too much.
The girl wanting to talk about boys
But not for her mother to judge.
The girl wanting to have a simple conversation
But not for her mother to end it in an argument.

The mother just wanting her daughter to talk to her
But not for her daughter to storm away.
The mother wanting to hear about boys
But not for her daughter to say she ‘doesn’t get it’
The mother wanting to have a simple conversation
But not for the daughter to end it in an argument.

The daughter wanting to rant about school talks and events,
But not for the mother to cancel out her noise.
The mother wanting her daughter to do chores,
But not for the daughter to pull a face and sigh in reluctance.

If the mother draws the girl’s life in black and white, she’ll question why her daughter paints it.
If the mother builds too high of a fence to overcome, she will look in confusion and frustration as the daughter refuses to climb it.
If the mother raises her daughter from a distance, she’ll wonder why she yells.

Standing still, in one place, equal and opposite, unmoving and unchanging, most of all untrusting
You’ll wonder why she ran.

The mother just wants to mother
And never be called a bad mum
The daughter just wants a mother
But not to become her.
The mother wants the best for her daughter
`And to enforce motivation.
The daughter just wants nothing that extreme
No, nothing at all.
