University vs apprenticeship

My plans currently right now are to go to university and do a degree in electronic engineering ( I'm from Scotland so uni is free and won't be taking student loans).

A few of my friends are doing apprenticeships right now and right now financially they are doing better than me ( my mate just bought a BMW at 18) and I'm just working my job in retail earning about 1/3 of his salary. So my question is this in 10 years time if I continue with going to university, does my degree allow me too high earning positions rather than going through an apprenticeship. I know it's not all about money but I would like to know.

Look into degree apprenticeships as an alternative to Uni if you prefer. I work in electrical and electronic engineering, specifically avionics, and I went via a Level 4 (HNC) apprenticeship, but we offer degree apprenticeships too across various engineering areas.

In the 9 years since my employer has paid out for a HNC, followed by an MEng, and the costs for my professional registration. I've worked across a number of major national programmes and been involved in some fun stuff.

Whether you do an apprenticeship or a degree isn't too important as long as you get to where you wish to be. Do you want to just study? Go to Uni first. Want to study while gaining experience? Maybe consider a degree apprenticeship.

As to BMWs etc, my fellow apprentices all had flash cars and gear. They also almost all lived at home with their folks and it was all on finance, so don't pay too much attention to that. Focus on you and what's best for you.

Good luck and if there's any questions I can answer about the profession or such, let me know buddy.

Hey, I made a video looking at university vs. degree apprenticeships from a financial perspective in terms of how much you could earn in the future and which is better financially. Might not be relevant to Scotland, because of the way your student loans work but feel free to check it out here if you're interested - https://youtu.be/5VQ_IEjbU-8
