Are you going to uni in september in 2023?

What’s happening currently and how will it change?
CURRENTLY
Repayment - 9% over £27,295
- If you make £30,000 income you pay £243 /yr
Max term - 30 years
Impact - 23% are likely to clear this loan in full

SEPTEMBER 2023
Repayment- 9% over £25,000
- on £30,000 you pay £450 /yr
Max term - 40 years
Impact - only 52% is likely to clear in full

How are you guys feeling about this?
Pretty crazy how people build up this debt from getting a degree and only 52% make enough to clear it.

There's gotta be some revised system as SFE is just a monopoly and I dont think it takes a genius to recognise they're just robbing students. 7% interest is crazy.

Anyway I'm chilling on a degree apprenticeship - the regular uni route seems to be getting less popular and for good reason.

Hi @user8937264980 [br] wow what’s the degree in? Yes I’m wondering what the trend for uni or apprenticeship is going to be in the future. Surely it will make an apprenticeship seem more enticing?

Yeah I assume so. All these big companies have increased their apprenticeship intake by like 30-40% as opposed to last year. Its in electronics engineering however I'm debating this vs mech eng at Uni of Leeds. Do you mind telling me a bit about your uni experience pls? Best wishes

Hi
yes of course I can. Uni has made me grow up and become so much my own person it’s been amazing. You’re chucked into a world where you are figuring out how to live, make friends, get a degree and pursue your passions by your self. So it really makes you grow up fast! I’ve not found an experience that comes close to university in that sense. I’ve loved every element of my degree, the friends I’ve made, the placements, the lectures ams just uni life in general. I love having a long day of lectures then going out with my society and socialising. I learnt how to learn at uni. Figuring out how to be the most effective with my time spent on activities. It feels amazing when you progress, as uni gives you a support team of staff and friends you can celebrate and reflect on the highs and lows with. I’ve loved living in my own accommodation, food shopping and having my own schedule - but nothing is stopping you from doing an apprenticeship and living by yourself or shared accommodation!

I think in general uni has suited my needs and ways of learning. I like exams, assessments and reports so the uni way of working suits me well. This definitely isn’t the same for everyone though and that’s ok, maybe in that case an apprenticeship would be better for you!

Best wishes
