UCL entry engineering

So I really want to study at UCL, mechanical engineering with an integrated foundation year. The problem is I achieved a 4 in GCSE maths and 5 in language but the entry requirements are 5-5 in maths and language. I did an extended diploma in engineering and achieved grades D*D*D, especially D in calculus and further maths as these are the units most unis care about. I really want to go there but I don't know how to persuade admissions that I am capable of uni level maths even though I got a 4 in gcse. I also got an offer from queen mary for a foundation year engineering but I don't know about the quality of teaching as I've heard its one of the bottom tier russel groups. Is there any way to persuade admissions? Anything will help.

Thanks.

GCSE requirements are usually mandatory. Have you applied to UCL even though you don't meet the requirements?
