best field to specialise in materials science and engineering?

the fields for which a materials engineer can specialise in include: metallurgy, polymers, corrosion, technical textiles, nanomaterials and biomaterials.
or you could do multiple?
what do you guys recon would be the most in demand?

i think nanomaterials would not be much use as we havent advanced to that level yet.
the use composites in engineering are increasing so polymers and technical textiles would be more in demand in the future.
corrosion and metallurgy are also a good choice.

I'd say it also depends on what industry you want to work in. In energy, for example, corrosion and metallurgy are very useful. Likewise if you wanted to work in the medical sector I'd imagine biomaterials - and possibly also polymers too - could be useful.

Hi there , I agree with the previous response there are a lot of different opportunities in different industries and it is probably more important for you to decide what your particular interest is than to be concerned with the demand.
There is a good demand for materials engineers in general and if that is the degree you are interested in or are studying then you are already on the right track .
I personally would suggest that you look into the sustainable energy industry because materials engineers play a crucial role in the sustainable energy sector by developing and optimizing materials for various renewable energy technologies. Especially in advancing energy storage technologies like batteries, supercapacitors, and fuel cells or in developing materials for hydrogen production, storage, and transportation. The energy industry is advancing rapidly in the pursuit for sustainability and the opportunities are endless. This is the reason I chose to study energy engineering at DMU ,if you have anymore questions and this helped a little we can talk a little more about it.
