Imperial Mechanical Engineering 2024

Hey, if anyone has received an offer for Mech Eng from Imperial, what are the grades they require? I personally don't know anyone else who applied so want to get a broader perspective

I have had no response yet. I've had my interview and admission test. I don't know anyone else applying for Mech Eng, however I do know Aero Eng, Chemistry, and Bio subjects applicants who have received offers. I heard that the Eng responses usually come around mid March(now) but I can't remember where I found this out and I don't know if definitely true.
Not sure about the most common grades of offer holders for Mech Eng.
Hopefully we find out and get in soon!

Maths Chemistry Physics Further Maths. My offer was actually 2A*’s and 2A’s with the A*’s in Maths and Physics.

Thank you, do you think not having further maths for a-level for mech eng or eng in general can really hinder my chances of getting into Imperial?

It’s not a big issue not having further maths, although it’s helpful because you learn the further maths content really quickly in first year of uni and having the a level knowledge takes some pressure of the 1st year. I know someone who did AS-level further maths in there second year of a level, can you do that because that is the next best thing? Also you can learn the core pure and mechanics major part of further maths in your own time and talk about it in your personal statement - they love this sort of stuff. Also I was predicted a B in further maths and still got an offer and I believe it was that my personal statement and engineering projects were really good.👍

I did a SATRO charity essay poster project on sustainable air travel and how automotive industry can influence aircraft industry - which I nearly did a Gold Crest Award submission with it but decided not to in the end as the process takes a long time. I would recommend gold crest award as it gets you a certificate and it about half the size of an EPQ.
I did an online course on hybrid vehicles by Udemy.
I have my own bike repair/maintenance business.
I build a motorbike from scratch using an old push bike and also put an electric motor on it as well - making the first hybrid electric/combustion motorbike. I ran electricity energy consumption and fuel volume tests on it using a voltmeter and Ammeter etc. and then used MATLAB numerical analysis software to calculate the energy consumption - then using national statistics on energy production I compared how environmentally friendly the hybrid bike was over running the electric motor on its own and the engine on its own - I made a little essay on this to summarise it.
^This was the main project which took the whole summer before Uni application.
I also read the chapters that I needed of a book on electrical motors and control systems so that I could diagnose and partially repair a broken electric bike motor from my hybrid motorbike project.
Overall it was so Important to have a flow to my projects and activities so that I could explain why I did those things in my personal statement!!! e.g. I was interested in hybridisation in airplanes from my essay project so I experimented with my own hybrid vehicle (bike).
I also did a week work experience in a local, sub-sea, high voltage cable installation vehicle design company called ETA.ltd - where I used power tools, conducted pressure tests, and used 3D CAD software. I got this work experience by asking on the local Facebook page - the owner of the company was a local.
I did a lot of stuff but it was important that everything connected and was a big learning curve that I could demonstrate in interviews and my personal statement.

Wow, this is all very impressive! Especially making a bike all by yourself - probably the biggest reason for your admission in Imperial!
I would like some advice on how to find something or a specific area of engineering that i could do a similar project on... but with something that interests me... Why did you make a bike? What sparked your interest?
