UCL

Bristol

Birmingham

Nottingham

Hopefully we can have some good discussions!

Hi everyone,

Finished my degree in 2022 in Diagnostic Radiography at RG Uni. Tried getting a junior dev role but was unsuccessful this year. Completed one internship in a FinTech company and one fullstack software bootcamp later. Been accepted for an MSc conversion with the University of Bath for the Computer Science course. What are people's thoughts on this particular MSc?

Hi all, following this thread. I'm planning to apply for the mid-year 2024 intake at University of Bath. I'm choosing Bath because of the online option (I'm in Canada) and the fees are not as expensive as other MSc Comp Sci programs in North America. I've seen some reviews from people about MSc conversion courses in the UK and most of them were able to make career transition to tech with their degree.

I have a BSc in Control Engineering and Automation and 1.5 yoe of software developer, can I apply for MSc Computer Science Conversion course ?

Have applied for the MSc comp sci at Nottingham plus MSc software engineering at Trent.

Coming from a healthcare background with a degree in Pharmacy. Hoping that my degree is sufficient for entry. I do have an online certification in JavaScript that hopefully shows my interest/fledgling ability in programming.

What made you target Nottingham specifically? Location preference?

Yeah, for me just location. Apart from the unaccredited online MScs I’m not too concerned with the prestige of the university as long as the course looks to be quality. To be honest I think the Trent course looks like I’d be better prepared for industry, but perhaps less prepared for academia.

How are your applications coming along?
Hey all,
I’m applying to UCL and Bristol. Got an offer for Bristol a few days ago. But I’m still waiting for UCL!
Is January too late to apply? I know it’s rolling applications but my references likely won’t be in until after the holidays. I’m worried I waited too long.

I am wondering the same thing. I’m just about to send off my application to UCL and have a fear that all spaces might’ve already been taken up.
I applied to ICL and UCL, got recommendations ready by mid nov. Received offer from UCL late December (have to pay deposit this week lol).

Called Imperial as they are my first choice but they said they cant prioritize applications and that this year they are taking 12 weeks to make a decision, so UCL it is for me.

Hi guys,

Just wondering if you think, in the personal statement, that it would be acceptable to state that i have career aspirations to specialise in AI and machine learning?

I know Imperial and UCL, particularly the former, have module options that give insights into machine learning and AI, with modules on algorithms which are also relevant. However, Bristol modules seem more for software engineering.

A friend mentioned that the admissions team might tell me to apply to courses specific in AI, however, i don't have a computer science background so couldn't apply to these anyway... I'm sure these conversion courses can prepare one to start building a professional career in AI, even if that means with supplementary courses. Or am I deeply mistaken?

I'd appreciate your thoughts on this.

Thanks

Hey there, congrats on the acceptance! I was wondering if you had any interviews for both schools that you applied for? Thank you!

I decided not to apply this year, but please let us know your results!

No interviews in either, I've heard they do some, but might just be in exceptional cases.

On my 7th week waiting for a response. Did you get in? If so, how long did they take to get back to you, and could you share your background?
