As an international student, i think that international students (who have come a long way, far from home and very lonely) should get their first choice to help the moving in process:p:

it goes inyour favour cause you help build a more diverse "cultural community" read the allocations process thingy on their website
Well, in my experience, the international students don't associate with anyone except other international students, which is a shame. I can understand it though, I mean, I can imagine wanting to hang around with people who speak my language and stuff, but it makes them stand out as unsociable recluses, which probably isn't the case.

Do you mean international students that are there for like a year? Or actual kids who speak english and all just come from another country..?

I'm guessing you've never been to an international school?

I see what you mean...i looked at it. I think the priority which goes to Health, Disability, Culture, Religion....bit won't apply to me because i don't have any special cultural needs...i think it's more along the lines of those who can't share bathroom will get ensuite or something.

But i kinda hinted that i'm very sensitive to smoke/perfume so hopefully they'll put me in a non-smoking one ^^
Nope, I have never attended an international school. I am aware that they exist, and what they are, and know people who attended them. Why do you ask?

Pah. Just got an email from the accommodation office politely telling me that there was no way in hell I could get the application done before I went. Have emailed back using a more grovel-ly tone and gently pointing out the technological limitations of Bolivian mountain peaks.
I've just realised I haven't yet given a moment's thought to which I'll put as my second choice.

I think that's a bit unfair really on their behalf - I could understand it if you had a conditional offer but not unconditional and especially the fact you're travelling. I mean they can at least let you fill out forms (like they do for overseas candidates) before looking at them/taking them all in at the final deadline.

But I don't understand... Can't someone else do it for you? You must have one family/friend?

Look on the accomadation website, they have the form from last year (which I am certain will be almost identical to this year's one).

Fill in the form, and then when the real form arrives (becomes available online) your friend/family will fill that one in for you.

One question?
Is the accomodation clean or do I have to bring my own Cillit Bang?
Would I be right in assuming that as I'm going to be in the drama dept. I'm going to get super socialising out of that so its cool if i live in a large student house??

What are the halls like on visitors? I know some uni halls dont let visitors in after X time which is a bit annoying if you have a friend over staying or something.

Ditto. Thinking from my e-mail I have no chance of an early application, which is nonsense really. Will probably manage to get on-line and fill it out abroad but it will be a bit of an effort when they really could make it easier for us now.

Ooh, you never know. I'd bring it, just to be safe.

Yeah. I mean, there will no doubt be some place at some point where I can get online long enough to do an application (or I could get a family member to do it...I just don't like putting it in other people's hands), it'll just be a LOT more hassle, and I'd really rather leave knowing that everything's sorted. I'd be a bit more understanding if it was clear they had to create the whole system, but I really don't understand why they can't just let me do it now when the capability is clearly there because overseas candidates are doing it.

I did get a response to my second email, which just said no again.
question--- instead of going back and reading all about it in past posts i was wondering if being in woodland court really does change that much in terms of the whole uni experience.. ?? is it really secluded??

Well, it's just that, everyone's an international students...so no, international students (that come from international schools, and speak good english, or even if they don't) do not just stick together as you seem to imply. We're used to diverse communities of people from different backgrounds, and students leave and enter(i.e. new students) all the time. So no, we do not have problems integrating.

I'm sorry but I really think she has a point. I know it's not everyone, and maybe it does apply more to people on 1 year exchanges, but it can be really hard to talk to/get to know some of the international students. But you clearly have a positive attitude towards meeting people, so I'm sure you'll be fine!
