Was the A* boundary really 90% for English?! God. Most of my class got A*s, so I thought it had been lower
Basically with an A from coursework, you can get an A* if come up with the goods in the exams. It makes it harder but just write like hell and try to be more articulate that's all I can say
I got an A in my coursework but an A* overall...god knows how because my exams weren't that great IMO!
I think that might be right - my school seems to do much better on english literature GCSE than language GCSE. Maybe the reason is because the grade boundaries are much higher for language.

At my school it seems to depend on the teachers taking the top set as to what the grade pattern is like. I had an English Language specialist as my teacher and subsequently in my year 10 or so people got A*s, and only 2 got A*s in Lit (I got a B and was expected to get an A - the marks for Lit were very low. However, in 2004, lots of people got A*s in Lit and not Lang and they had a Literature specialist (well, the top set).

Hmm, my school (overall) has a much lower average grade for language. Maybe the school specialises in literature (admittedly, they do seem the type to dismiss language as less credible than literature).

Anyhow, I'm very glad I dropped it!
Couldn't STAND Literature myself. Wasn't that keen on Lang but took it for AS for some reason!

English Lit is a joke. 24 people got A* and 10 people got it in Language in my school. If you can get an A* in Language it shows real intelligence.
Y thank you Sami

Some of the stuff they ask you on the language paper is a bit weird, for my WJEC GCSE mock, you had to write a letter to a friend, to encourge/discourage them to move abroad!!

In my OCR GCSE mock, we had to write a letter to a friend telling them not to drop out of college lol.

Interesting! Well, I decided to write telling them not to go abroad, I got all my ideas from the holiday programmes where people decided to go abroad to live where they can't speak the language, go for the most expensive property, where the people have not planned anything and things go wrong!

Hey my fellow forumers (if that's a word, please don't penalise me if it's not beacuse of the thread title lol). I was just wondering if it is possible to get an A* for English Language if I only have an A in the coursework folder. I have an A* for my literature coursework folder so I'm not too concerned about that at the minute, however I was just wondering if it is possible to get my language to that level too in the exams.

Any help and suggestions are appreciated. I have an A* for all of my Speaking & Listenings and I'm doing the Edexcel course if it helps.

Thanks a lot

I got an A* in English Language and my coursework folder was a B! Even my teachers couldn't believe it.
I got an A* in English Language, and I got A* for all my courseworks. I got A*,A, A for my Speaking and Listening thingies so, I'd imagine they'd probably average that out at an A. So it must be possible.

However as always if you are hoping to jump a grade in the exam, it'll mean attaining A* in the exam plus the extra marks to make up from your coursework. So if you don't like the questions, you've got no chance. But anyway, your coursework may need to be moderated and the grade boundaries for those aren't set until summer. So you could still be in with a chance!
I got A* for Eng lit and lang. But I only got an A for my oral coursework. This was last year. Hardly anyone got A*, but an A is just as good, I think... what does a * mean to anyone?
English language was a joke last year, i got an a for my coursework and about half of my
class got A* even me and its one of the worst schools in the city aswell.

Well, my speaking and listening tests are awful so far, so far I have C+, B+ and A- and my coursework is A* standard. Have another one tomorrow, so hopefully an A or higher. Somebody told me though that you don't need an A or A* in S/L to get an A* in the exam. Meh, I hate these things.
In our year group, nobody got an A* in Lit, but a lot got A*s in Language... We don't know why  Language isn't an option at A Level or I think people might have chosen it rather than Lit based on the results. I think almost everybody got one grade lower in Lit than Lang...

My exam was close to 100% so I pulled it off. I just had a good day I guess.
