no sports facilities at LSE unless you're in the team. there's 8 football teams i think and loads of others from rugby to pool. if you want a top social life, jus be in one of these teams. their nights out are notorious!

the LSE gym is rubbish but we've got a pretty decent one next to our halls which is £25/month. we play football on some council estate nearby, people in other halls play in the park. there's basically nothing at the LSE campus itself, but cos you're in London, you'll always find something.

societies i've done nothing. joined loads, but no great ones. The Finance/ Investment ones are pretty big here lol

is there a boxing team?

the gym is fine. it has two racks and two oly bars, which is as much as most gyms.

TBH, if you make an effort to know people, join societies and staff, you can make it as social as you like. I will actually hump that penguin thing outside the bookstore if there are not at least 4 or 5 people (if not more) who go out 2-4 times a week (if not more).

yeah i know i can make the most of it, but i will probably do that with all my mates going imperial and ucl but im not sure for economics at LSE because on the site it says 65% foreign.

also the maths involved, 2 modules out of the 4 sucks... so thats another negative, only positive i have for LSE is that long term rep and benefits.

I'm in pretty much exactly the same boat.. offer from Notts and LSE for straight economics. Just waiting on a potential Warwick offer and then my UCAS replies are done with. I've been thinking about it quite a bit and I would rather work like hell for 3 years and have an economics degree from LSE, than settle for an easy ride and a few more drunken nights a week.

I know that friends will be having an easier time, but in 10 years time, it's more likely you will be the one struggling less financially and enjoying life, with a top class degree under your belt. (Not saying Nottingham isn't top class, but LSE lets face it, is in a whole other league in my oppinion).

yeah working like hell for 3 years is what i hear too from LSE but im sure it wont be like that all the time and you can have a great night or two a week as you are in london. I dont like the course at LSE, but you are correct, LSE is LSE and you are sorted (if you work hard) when you come out with a degree from there.

Agreed. Were you at the open day today/ intend on going to the open day in July?

I'm going down to see it myself one day soon, just to have a nose around the place. I definately will be one of those up for a good night or two out around London.. it's all a part of University after all

im going to the LSE open day on april 21st, the one in the undergrad pack they send with the offer confirmation letter. It is specific for those with offers and for economics. I have been to LSE before on a normal day and as it is at any other uni there are people i can socialise with. But at LSE u have to do so much more maths ... i dont want to anymore

I only received my offer through UCAS yesterday so I'm yet to receive that pack. Still.. I expect I will be there on April 21st as well.

I feel your pain in the Maths department, further maths A level was bad enough. However, I'm sure the maths will be a lot more relevant than half of the junk you learn in school, so hopefully the difficulty will be balanced by some relevant applications in economics terms.

yup ... thats why for as-FM i am doing D1 and D2 (my own choice ... hate mechanics) ... because its not real maths

Also at LSE ive heard that alot of the maths is just pointless as it is in many courses apart from maths and maybe physics

Although maths application into economics would be really enjoyable because it backs-up theories quiet well in most casses.

Haha.. Our school forced us to do D1,D2,M1,M2.

What was your offer from LSE? (I'll PM you from now on by the way, since this thread has sort of reached the end)

The penguin's gone, stolen in the middle of the night, supposedly by students from the Strand Poly. The Gen Sec was going to lead is over there to retrieve it but I don't know if it happened in the end. It's worth £250,000 apparently!

Not everyone at LSE works 15 hours a day, one guy I know deals drugs on the side while another takes a selection of hard drugs every weekend.

I think the course will get better after the first year.

Meh, all I know is I'm gonna have a good time, but whatever toasts your bread I guess.
