Self Catered accomodation for 1st year at uni?

Hey , my friend went for self catered and didn't rate it at all. His reason's were that it cost quite a bit but also if you sleep in etc. or go out for the whole day your paying for food your not eating because the food in this case at Liverpool was only served during set times.
