Yes it costs to join societies, check out www.trentstudents.org and follow the link to the societies page on that. it will tell you the names of each society and should eitehr give you the price to join, or at least contact details to ask them how much it costs, whats included and how this money gets spent. Usually it gets spent on hire charges for venues to practice, or hold meetings and then goes back into the society but each society varies.

Thankyou thats good to know! i live about 35 mins away so not too far but i didnt want to be on my own if people had made friends with the people they are living there with if they are moving in before freshers week

You'll still make friends with them, especially on the course your doing and there are meeting points in the city for halls that don't have fresher reps, mature, local and international students which is spankey van dykes on goldsmith street, so you can meet people at that, and then join everyone else for the night time activities.

One tip is probably not to rush off home straight after lectures, unless you obviously have to get to work but stay around for a while and socialise with them, suggest going for something to eat or a drink etc that way you won't be out of it with socialising. You'll probably make friends with someone and spend time at their halls all the time, what are you studying?

Most friendship groups really don't form until halway through induction week, and usually its with people on your course or society, sometimes who you live with if your lucky in that respect but most often not. You will be fine, just try out lots of societies in freshers befroe you have to pay for them and see if any of them suit you and you'll meet lots of people that way.

Over the next few weeks the union website may be the best source of info until you get to trent, or the uni website as well as you can search course induction programmes and gym membership on there.

Check out most of the student union and freshers groups on facebook as clubs/ societies post on that especially at the minute. what exactly do you want to join and I may have an idea of what they charge etc?

Slightly different as some regard themself as a society and otehrs a sports club, it costs to join both but sports clubs you have to have gym/ sports membership which is a £100 per year as that covers insurance etc. Then its a small fee per year on top I think depending on the club, plus kit costs etc but you do get taster sessions and tryouts in the first two weeks of term so no need to spend on things you may never use, and you don't have to pay for gym membership for first two weeks either as thats free so people can sample it.

Not too sure as i've just graduated, but in the past they've had zane lowe a few times, so maybe at freshers ball if you have one this year. Celebrities they usually have pretty much every year as well, but expect to see someone who's not really a celebrity its usually random minor people you'd class as a celeb. No doubt they will have as trent prides it self on having one of the best and biggest freshers weeks every week, especially as its nearly two weeks long from start to finish.
hahaha decent. i can't wait.

And answering your previous question i want to join the boxing club when i get there?

Also ill be in private accomodation, as in not an official nottingham trent one.

Are they still good? i couldnt get on the official ones the website was a pisstake

Not too sure on pricing for boxing club, but I've just found a link from the university sport and fitness pages to a facebook group for them, and a contact e mail address, so maybe try that and see if they can let you know what training's like and how much it will be to join etc. Even when taster sessions are during freshers.

Most private accommodation are as good, if not better than the university one. which one will you be at?

I've heard of a few people staying there or ones run by the same company and they seem to like it, its not too far from city centre and centrally located for bus routes, asda is quite close by as well. so your probably in a not too bad place, and seems liek you get a lot for what your paying

No Problem if you go on the main university website and look under welcome week, on the left hand side it mentions courses, click on that and type in what your studying. make sure it says undergraduate and then it should come up with your induction programme, may not be up for another week or two but worth a check and you will get this emailed to you within the next three weeks maximum.
