Hey!
I think the accommodation at Keele opens on 1st April. I just wondered what people would be applying for? (I HAVE NO IDEA AND I NEED HELP AHHHH!!!)
I would like to be somewhere where the action is, but I'm not sure where

I'm applying to Lindsay Halls because when I visited yesterday for an independent visit it was literally a 3 min walk from the union or any of the main buildings, have you been to visit ?

Yeah from my opinion the lindsay halls were the best but all the halls are on campus and are literally within a 5 min walk from anywhere I really enjoyed my visit I went on an independent one so got loads of info on everything, I was worried about the fact that it was a campus and you would have to get a bus to any of the clubs around but they said that actually the student union was brilliant For a good night out and also at te lindsay halls they have own little pub there too so looked good !

Yeah that's true, I heard that Keele Village is cute and quiet which might not be everyone's cup of tea! Aww glad you had a good time Yeah I know what you mean, my dad is from Stoke and he said it's not too bad just your usual town but it's got the Sugarmill and they have some decent bands there. But yeah it's meant to be the 4th best nightlife in the country so you can't go wrong really

It must be good there then ! Will be making lots of trips there next year I'm sure ! I'm doing psychology I want to join the quiddich team too! Haha my friend was telling me about the other week

Horwood is probably cheapest of all (about 70 pds/week back in 2009) and is 5 minute walk from students' union
Where abouts on campus is it ? Is it near all the other halls ?

The info comes out in April but we don't apply til next month. I'm looking at Lindsay and Horwood.

At Keele, you don't apply specifically for a hall, you have to apply for a room type which means you don't get to choose where you're put. (or that's what happened last year).
You can choose from standard without sink, standard with sink, ensuite, or flat and only some of each are available in each halls area, for instance if you apply for standard without sink then you can't get put in hawthorns if you get that room type, so there are ways to limit where you could end up.
If I was choosing my accommodation again I wouldn't choose band B rooms, I'd definitely apply for room A. It doesn't sound like a big difference but I think there is purely on the layouts of the block.

I noticed on the website there was different bands but I thought it was just the price. What is the difference between band a and band b? Firmed Keele to do Law and Criminology, has anyone else chosen similar ?

I didn't think there was any difference when I applied but from what I've seen this year, Band A normally has the better layout so all the rooms are off a single corridor and they're just easier to socialise in because of this. Band B tends to be on a spiral staircase and this makes everything so much more difficult. Plus Band B doesn't always have a kitchen table, although this could be the same in some Band As as well.

Is there an option to specifically choose band a or do you just have to see what you get?

I'm just going from last year's process, but what happens is there is a list of every type of accommodation, and you have to choose your first six preferences in order.
Each of the different types of accommodation is split into Band A and Band B, so for instance you could apply for Standard Room Band A, and Standard Room Band B separately. I'd definitely say that choosing Band A was worth it.
