AS Chemistry intermolecular forces

How can you tell which intermolecular force act between certain molecules? I don't remember my class being given a paticular method to use and I keep dropping marks in these questions

If one of the atoms with a covalent bond is significantly more electronegative than the other the bond will become dipolar.
The permanent dipole attractions result in increased boiling points.
A subset of these is hydrogen bonds, where the δ+\delta^+ atom is hydrogen.

Everything has Van Der Waals (instantaneous dipoles)

This will explain things better than I can
