With what information ?

I would have thought, by applying an electric field... but you don't need to know any of that until A2

Hey Jimmy! I did this question for you. Sorry for the poor quality. This should give you a better understanding on diodes in parallel and series. (and in opposite sides) :biggrin:

Hello Sophie. I am done for now lol. I just did a question on diode and posted my question with all the solutions for Jimmy. And now he is already offline. My attachment is up there. Anyway, whu? Can you actually read the answers? I know it is a poor quality. Download the image and rotate it clockwise 90degrees. It is a really good question. It covers every rule for a diode.

3V is a total voltage. since diode is in forward direction with a resistor, it will require 3-0.6=2.4V. (remember, a diode requires 0.6V to let the current through). If the diode was is series with resistor Q and in forward bias. diode will be 0.6V and resistor Q will be 2.4 instead. (it is opposite when diode is in parallel). Got it?

Q is 0.6V because diode is in forward and in parallel. P is 2.4 because diode is reversed and in parallel.
