There's probably 2/3 people in your class who are ok at French and they'll be the only ones left soon enough. In my class hardly anyone knew what 'depuis' meant and a few weren't even sure on the difference between a noun and an a verb

Neither - at my school you can pick up a second foreign language once a week after school in year nine, and I'm just joining in with the German class
It does mean I can't use my Thursday afternoon free to go home though, which is annoying, but hey, DEUTSCH!!!

Previously I would've suggested Rosetta Stone but since someone suggested Duolingo, I personally cannot recommend it highly enough, it's by far the best to start out with before moving on to other resources to become fluent.
