King's College Medicine applicants 2014 entry

Scroll to see replies

I have chosen 3 unis, but for 4th choice, confused between Leicester or KCL.

GCSE: 5.5A*, 3A, BTEC Diploma Health and Social Care (I couldn't do many gcse's because my school focused on vocational subjects like btec and i really had no choice)
AS: AAAA
A2: A*A*A* (predicted)
UKCAT: 700

Which one would be better for me to apply? I really like KCL but I'm afraid they'll reject me due to poor gcse and just borderline ukcat score.

Hello  I am an international student and have been considering King's College London for a while now but before I go on, here are my stats

UKCAT: 750 AVG (550 VR, 760 QR, 900 AR, 790 DA)

GCE O'Level(I didn't sit for the GCSE): 7A*(Chem,Maths,Phys,Bio,Geo,English Language,Principles of Account), 2A(Additional Maths,IRK), 1B(random language spoken at my country)

AS Level: Chem A, Biology A, Physics A, Maths A

A level prediction: A*A*AA (Chem, Bio, Maths, Physics)

Work Experiences:
1 week shadowing the E.N.T department(specialist centre)
1 week at the Children's hospice
1 week at the National Hospital (rotational attachment)
3 months tutoring program at a primary school
School Prefect, School and Sports House Treasurer.
I have also played the piano at a few charity concerts.

I have arranged for another two weeks of shadowing attachment and also volunteer work at a local orphanage during December

Looking at my work experiences/volunteer work, they don't seem very impressive. Where I come from, it is a tad bit difficult to get work attachments at government hospitals and clinics(students are not allowed during school holidays) so I have a few odd jobs instead.
That said, with the selection process, do I still stand a chance at an interview and hopefully an offer? Thank you for your time and god bless

Hi. I achieved 6A*s in Add Science, Core Science, Maths, French, History, R.E an A in Business and 3 Bs in English language, English literature and P.E.
For my AS levels i achieved AABBB (Maths,French,Chemistry,Biology and R.S respectively) The chemistry B is very likely to move to an A as there were errors in the original marking of the paper.. but anyway i have A*AA predictions for A2
I scored 690 in my UKCAT. BAND 3 SJT
I have done work experience at my local g.p, a hospital and shadowed orthopaedic surgery abroad. I have also volunteered at a care home during the summer. Is Kings College out of reach?
Does anyone know if King's still look at GCSEs if you have achieved A Levels?

I want to apply to KCL as they accept all my subjects for A Levels - Business Studies, Polish Language and Photography. I want to apply for Law, and I know, they are not too academic, but unfortunately my school didn't give me the option to choose more academic subjects due to my poor GCSE results. I only got 1 A, 2 B's and the rest are C's. However I have improved my studies at A Level. I achieved a Distinction* and 2 A's. I'm not sure if this will help, but I called up KCL admissions and they do not have any specific entry requirements from GCSE's. As long as you do good in your A Levels and achieve A*AA, then you have a big chance of getting in. If I can do it with these GCSE grades then so can you.

Hi  This thread is more geared towards potential KCL medics, not prospective law students. You may find these threads more helpful:

My GCSEs are 4A*+4A+2Bs, UKCAT 777.5(VR710, QR840, AR720 and DA840 and SJT B2), Predicted IB score of 38+1 with reasonably good PS (done Voluntary work at Hospice+ BHF for >1 year+ 4 weeks of Hospital and GP placements and good ECAs). I would like to know what is the realistic chance of being called for interview at KCL. Many Thanks.

Hey,

I'm really struggling to find out any information regarding how Kings score graduates for interviews on both the A100 and A102 course

Does anyone know how applicants are ranked as a graduate

Also, does anyone know how many applicants there are to spaces each year?

Thank you!

Yes it does have an age limit. You need to be 18 by 1st September, otherwis you need to apply with deferred entry.

Hi guys, new member here
I'm thinking of applying to King's for Medicine. I've achieved A*A*BBa for my A-levels, with the Bs in Chemistry & Further Maths. My UKCAT is 770 average, 3080 total. I achieved 8A*s, an A & B in IGCSE.

How do you think King's would view such a situation? Would I have a chance of being considered?

Thanks!

Hi everyone!
I'm in year 13 now studying Biology, Chemistry and Maths.
I've got an A at AS Level in Economics.
I got 8A*s, 2A's and 2Bs at GSCE. A in English Language and A* in Maths.
My UKCAT score was 767.5 (3070)
I am also applying to Manchester (my local uni) and Leeds.
I don't know what university I should have as my fourth?
Also, do you think I stand a realistic chance getting interviews?
Thanks!!

That's good, I'm not sure whether or not to go for Newcastle or HYMS? I heard that HYMS guarantee an interview for UKCAT scores over 700

It is very likely that you would get an interview at both as they are both very UKCAT heavy so it is entirely your decision. Which do you personally prefer?

Newcastle pretty much give the top 40% ukcat scores an interview I think
