Im starting to look at which accomodation i should go for at bath university, could anyone give me any pointers as to some of the main pros and cons?

In addition to Isabelle's pointers, I would say that living on campus is infinitely better than living in accommodation in the city, for example John Wood.

1st years invariably socialise on campus, be that clubbing (at least at the start of the year), sports, barbecues etc - so living on campus will mean that you're far closer to the centre of things. It also makes it easier to get to 8:15 lectures!

I had a friend who lived in John Wood, and she described it as fairly solitary, people knew each other within a few kitchen groups but there were far less people around than in the on-campus halls

There's also a new accommodation suite being built at the moment on campus, doesn't seem to be on the uni listings yet but I believe that it'll be ready for 2014's intake

I've got offer for 2014 intake as well. I am having some problems with choosing accommodation as well. I know it is better to live on campus. I want to know more details about each accommodation. I mean which one is the most popular and best among others?

How do I apply for accommodation? I firmed Bath through UCAS last week?

It's worth knowing that of the non en suite halls, Norwood has the biggest rooms. I loved living there and I can now certainly sleep through any amount of noise,even if I couldn't at the start!

After Malborough/Sols I'm thinking about Westwood. Can you tell me a bit about it? What's the kitchen group size, is it cleaned etc. as I heard Eastwood isn't? Not sure how I feel about woodland due to the massive kitchen groups...

I like Norwood but I like to walk around to places quite a bit so I know being right on top of everything could drive me a bit crazy!

This is the page you really need to be using to make this decision. And also this page if you would rather live in town than on campus.

To start with, I would use the prices as a guideline. They range from £60 per week to £195 and these are a very good indicator of what you can expect.

If you're interested in catered options, see a thread here where I addressed this.

Please also bear in mind that you are not guaranteed your first choice so I would recommend applying as soon as you can.

If you have specific questions about any of the halls feel free to ask me.

In general, Bath is a very well maintained campus and there are certainly no unpleasant halls of residence so students tend to be happy anywhere.

Do you have to have student finance set up to apply for accomodation? Is there anything I need to have ready by April 8th?

Also when is the new accomodation going to be available for? Not heard/seen anything more about it..? Will it be available to apply to?

Nope! You just have to remember your BUCS username and password (whatever you use to login to the Bath application tracker.)

It should be open for applications for next year as it's definitely supposed to be finished by summer.

So we can't apply for the new accommodation? Stressing about not getting Marl/Sols/Woodland, the others don't look great..

Don't worry, when it comes to registering and logging on, just make sure you are there the second it goes online (I think it was about 10am) and if it doesn't let you in because there are already too many people trying to get in, keep refreshing and you'll be able to login as soon as someone else logs out.

Between Marlborough/Solsbury (you apply to both, they count as one) and Woodland, there are a lot of rooms. If you're there as soon as the system opens for applications, I'd be very surprised if you didn't at least get your second choice. They tend to take options down as soon as they're over capacity as well, so there shouldn't be any nasty surprises.

The others are honestly fine, I've been in a few and it's not awful. There are pros too - more money left over, bathrooms are cleaned for you, the Norwood rooms especially are a good size, right in the centre of campus, and apparently you get free tickets to SU stuff (because you're right above it!)

Oh I thought you meant available for next actual year as opposed to academic year! I think its called the Quads or something and then divided into trees haha? I would really like to see some photos of the rooms and the facilities. Guessing they'd be en suite.
