Life at Winchester Uni

So I've been reading reviews about students experiences at Winchester and wanted to know if it's that bad? Some of the reviews on here aren't too good which worries me a lot! Would like to have anyone's intake on going to study at Winchester Uni please as it's quite far from home and would like to know if I'm making the right choice?
Thanks!

No idea about the University itself, but I'll chip in about Winchester as its where I went to college.

The city itself is lovely. It's very small for a city, but the architecture is beautiful, and its an extremely safe place to walk around - its a very affluent area.

Depending on how you like your nightlife it may or may not be the place for you. Don't expect nightclubs, but there are a decent supply of bars and pubs to keep you watered. There are a couple of places that have live music, but its not on the 'gig circuit' for large tours - you'd have to go to London for that.

Thank you! I really want somewhere safe to go! Where I live is a really small city too so I think I'd like it  I'm not sure if I'm going to apply though because of so much negative comments about the uni! Sounds kinda suckish but I do love the city it's beautiful!

The reviews are probably bad because it's not known for it's nightlife, but that all depends on what you want. I'm more of a pubs girl so it's great for me.

Everything is within walking distance, Southampton, Bournemouth and London are only an hour or so by train.

Although Winchester is not high on the league tables, it specialises in Education Studies and similar courses.

We should dispel them! :P There were things like that the lecturers aren't very good and they cancel alot and that you can't have a good experience there!
there were some other stuff butI can't remember! D:
I like the city and the fact it's near London and I'm also a pubs type of girl
!
I've been looking at Edge Hill university too so these are the top two universities in my opinion! Aghh it's a tough decision :frown:
Thank You ^_^
I read a forum aswell and she was all like Winchester sucks and that you don't make much friends and the people at Winchester aren't very helpful so I have no idea what to do D:

The lecturers seems like a lovely bunch and some of them are quite prominent, especially for the more traditional subjects. I've not heard anything about them cancelling but there have been a couple of teachers strikes this past year, that might be what is being referred to here.

With regards to the forum, it may be that the problem lies with this person rather than the uni! :P

I went to an open day with the same kind of mindset - thinking it was a tiny place with rubbishy nightlife, but the open day totally changed my perspective! The city is LUSH! small but beautiful. Also, literally all the students i spoke to seemed to be really positive about the uni, i didn't hear/see anything that i didn't like. also, the lecturers i met seemed really cool! there was one from time team, and the main history lecturer guy is like a proper historian, who my dad'd heard of, which threw me a bit!

Also, i think with any uni, there are people who don't enjoy it. I've seen posts on TSR about Reading uni completely hating on it, saying they wished they'd never gone there, but 3 of my friends are there having awesome times!

If you can go on an open day, i'd really recommend it, because you can't really get a realistic idea of what it's like there from reviews. Plus there's a facebook page for this year's applicants, who all seem like really awesome people. I've gone from being pretty much anti-winch to a MASSIVE winchling thanks to the open day so i totally recommend!

Edge hill was one i looked at too, but decided it was too far away from me, but it's a good uni too, so whichever one you go for, i'm sure you'll have a great time ^_^
For some reason I can't quote anyone on my phone :frown:
Winchester does look beautiful I must admit! Although edge hill is closer to me then Winchester because I live up in North Wales D:
Originally I reaaaaally wanted to go to Winchester but now Edge Hill looks like the best o.o
I am definitely gonna go to open days depending on whether Winchester accept the Welsh Bacc!
Thank you both of you for your help:smile:)

Same course I'm doing! and I was choosing between winch and edge hill (coincidence much) lol
I've picked winch though, it seems really lovely, a bit quiet but that's not a bad thing rly. Also I dunno if you're still picking, but edge hill is in the middle of nowhere! Put me off a lot lol

I am still deciding! I'm so glad I have till September to decide! Aghh the decision is hard that's for sure :frown:
I am liking Edge Hill more than Winchester at the moment but Winchester does sound better! I like Edge Hill because I'll be closer to home but it is in the middle of nowhere! That kinda is handy though because if I do want a night out I'll go to Liverpool so that can leave Ormskirk quite nice and quiet
Winchester appeals to me alot though, so does Edge Hill. I'm yet to do more research!
Thank You:smile:
