Durham offer holders 2015 thread

Scroll to see replies

This is shameless advertising of another thread I know, but I think it's vitally important that Durham offer holders and prospective students all engage in the matter of accommodation fees:

Please share your thoughts. The rise in accommodation fees to almost £7k per year for a standard let room is a really big issue in Durham at the moment (i'm a first year undergrad), so it'd be really interesting to hear what offer holders have to think.

Honestly the price quoted for a catered, single room at my allocated college (which is the exact opposite of what I applied to) is the most ludicrous thing I've had to bear throughout all my application process. It's obvious that most of the money doesn't go to improving the colleges, and they always base the price on the fact that they offer a college experience rather than a simple residence.

It's shameful. If I do accept Durham, I am only staying there for a year.

Ahh I won't see you then! Is Durham your first choice? What other universities have you applied for?x

Ahh I thought the days might overlap but I just realized they don't! Yeah Durham is my first, got offers from Exeter, Loughborough, Sheffield and Newcastle, so hopefully if exams go well might see you next year! Is Durham your first choice? Where else did you apply?x

Durham is definitely my first choice! I am so excited tbh! I've got offers from Glasgow and Leeds and waiting for Edinburgh. Yeah hopefully I will get the grades, if not I will be devastated! :colondollar:
Turns out I can't make the post-offer open day :frown: sad to miss the department talks/tutorial and seeing butler tbh
Anyone who has firmed Durham, have you recieved a confirmation email from Durham directly?

Absolutely surprised having yesterday received an offer for Classics with quite low conditions! :-)

I have received a confirmation email from my college, which also says 'thank you for firming durham' etc. I received it two days after firming.
Got allocated to John Snow college - and I'm a game of thrones fan

Ahh well done you that's cool  I keep checking my UCAS track because I'm pretty certain they must have made a mistake...which college did you get? I got Van Mildert- I was kind of sad not to get one of the older ones at first, but their freshers video was jokes so it's calm.

I don't even know which college I got in, perhaps they haven't decided yet???

Have you done any Latin or Greek in school? I thought about applying for Classical Past, but I think I'm more the language type, so in the end I'm quite happy with Classics. But we would definitely share many lectures!

They sent me my college email a few days after the offer came through on ucas, so dw!
No, my school is a comp. so offers zero classical subjects(cry). Have you? I took Classical Past just because I think I'd rather have the choice rather than HAVE to do it. Ahh, true- let's pray that we get in!!

I have done many years of Latin (I really love it), but my Greek is not as good as it should be...
My first choice has always been St Andrews, but the offer from Durham makes it harder to decide. I thought it would be easier... :/

Ah wow, you're so, so lucky! I feel your pain, I am trying to decide between staying in London for UCL or choosing Durham:rolleyes: King's College London, Exeter, UCL as I said and Oxford( I had three different college interviews& then they were like nahh. Which was fair enough as my AS levels were so dodge aha). What about you??

First, I just applied for St Andrews last October. I never really wanted to go to Oxbridge , nor to any other uni, so I wrote in my PS that I really wish to go to St Andrews and specialised it only to this uni. After not getting any replies immediately, I realised that this might be quite stupid  I then sent my application also to Durham, Exeter, Glasgow and Edingburgh. Got offers from Glasgow and Durham, still waiting for Edingburg and Exeter.
Received an offer a few days ago for French and Russian at Van Mildert

I received a conditional offer in January, asking for 3A's or 2A's and a C in the Welsh Bacc  I applied for the MA in Social Anthropology, has anyone else applied for this?
