This is brilliant news! Its time for white men to accept their priveledges and to stop invading PoCs safe sapces, I can't wait for the next NUS meeting I'll be proposing some harsher penalities for any white men who think that this is acceptable.

I'm not, let me guess you are a white women, well you benefit from white privelege so you have no grounds to ignore the experinces of PoC like myself. There can be no solidarity with white women till we have equality.

Because gay white men obviously got it a lot easier than women.

“White gay men are the dominant demographic within the LGBT community,” the U.K.’s National Union of Students (NUS) determined at a meeting earlier this week, “and they benefit from both white privilege and male privilege.”
“White gay men often assert that they are ‘strong black women’ or have an ‘inner black woman,'” NUS continued, calling such behavior “unacceptable” and saying it “must be addressed.”
Therefore, it was officially decided, gay white men may no longer act like black women.
According to its website, NUS is a group dedicated to making “a real difference to the lives of students.” The organization consists of 600 student union group across the U.K., representing the interests of more than seven million students.
NUS passed a motion forbidding gay men from emulating “the mannerisms, language (particularly AAVE- African American Vernacular English) and phrases that can be attributed to black women.”
A second motion passed was the banning gay men from dressing in drag as it could be offensive to trans women. (Queer students who want to cross-dress in their everyday lives as a mode of self-expression, however, are exempt from this rule, NUS said.)
Lastly, the group announced on Twitter this week: “Some delegates are requesting that we move to jazz hands rather than clapping as it’s triggering anxiety. Please be mindful!”
That’s right, clapping is also forbidden by the group.
A NUS spokeswoman told Gay Star News, “We’re a democratic society, and if members voted for it, these are our policies.”
Any white gay man caught breaking these rules will be sentenced to death before a firing squad.
Just kidding.
It’s not clear what the penalties will be or even how they will be enforced. That seems to be beside the point anyway. NUS said its primary goal in instituting these new totalitarian rules is to “raise awareness.” To itself, no doubt.

ffs wot a load of 'politically correct' over sensitive codswallop. I supose black women are perfectly within their rights to say they are embracing their inner white gay man. How are we supposed to move foward with society when one group of people are seen to be the doers of no wrong and the victims in any situation which doesn't pander to them?

I don't know much about the the cross dressing part so I want speak on that. But I've come across so many men who claim to have an "inner black woman". And I totally see why this is offensive.
It's a pretty deep subject, and you kinda have to understand the context of black women in America to understand the issue. The thing is, when a white gay see's clicks in z formation, and neck cocks and all these other characteristics associated with black women, they don't understand everything that is beneath it, they don't understand why some black women carry themselves in the way they do. They don't understand why she has to be "strong" and "independent". All they see is comedy, and novelty.

So this is a UK student union? Wow. How random. I wouldn't expect such people to have awareness of US racial politics on such a micro level. Now that's funny.

I'm not black or white but white gay men surely need to be strong and independent as well from all these suppression.

You seem to be confused about the "PoC" term; white people have colour, too

Honestly, it's quite offensive that you should suggest otherwise

Thanks for assuming I ignore your experiences just because of my skin colour  There's a word for that sort of stereotyping.

Look I'm not ignoring your experiences. We just have a different view on the line between when you are the victim and where other people become so due to over zealous attempts help your situation. There is also a huge double standard between the levels of acceptance in wider society (in liberal circles/ the main stream media I mean) of what Poc can say/ do to white people because of their skin colour and the other way round. I'm happy to discuss your experiences of racism etc with you and I can tell you mine. Then we might come to a more common understanding as it is hard to see it from a different pov to your own.

Did he claim that way? Maybe it's just people stereotyping certain behaviour. Beyoncé may have claimed credits for songs she didn't write, she didn't claim credits to everything in life, you know.

Shading Beyonce for absolutely no reason. You aint slick.

Strong? Yes. I don't know about independent.

Either way, I don't see the justification in all this ebonics speaking mock-like behaviour.

Racial classification is in itself racist anyway.

Yes, it's easy to distinguish between a white, a black, and an oriental person; but Latino and Arab are actually also white in skin colour. Latino was for the longest time considered white, but now they're considered not enough. It's just like how Hitler seeing Slavs less of a white race.

I didn't talk about intentions. We can never truly know the intentions. I said 'manner'.Yes, you can; and they were. It was the case with Katy Perry, Gwen Stefani, Madonna, and lots of other people. They actually are fond of the culture. We orientals don't own the clothes or style. It is patronising indeed. It is the same in nature, but the fact that the reaction is different illustrates exactly my point. Bowties are quite frankly European, and dressing up with a bowtie is to conform to a European style. Fundamentally, it's no different from dressing in traditional Chinese or Japanese clothing. Obviously some people dress up to mock, in both cases; but they are not inherently offensive.

Ok, I get what you're saying. You can dress to respect someone's culture if you dress in an accurate way (say, a full traditional kimono) but if you dress in a cliche and generalised manner (dressing up as a "native american" with a short dress, 2 feathers and dumb face paint lines) then it's offensive.

This is the UK National Union of Students, though not all British universities' student unions are affiliated with it.

Call that Beygency to arrest me.

You know I'm speaking no lies. I'm a Beyhive but she clearly added credits to songs she either didn't write or added just a full stop to.
