Does anyone know if Glasgow has changed from PBL based to integrated? :colondollar:

I know previously Glasgow was very much a PBL based course but at an open day I was told that it has actually changed to integrated :s-smilie:

Wasn't able to find anything online!

I thought integrated just mean early clinical stuff, so it could be both integrated and PBL?

PBL and integrated are completely different things. PBL is a way of learning and integrated is a structure of learning.

Sorry for the confusion! I'm meaning teaching styles. According to my book it's saying integrated and PBL are both teaching styles (I've popped a picture in just in case that helps!) :smile:

It's PBL but comprises of many teaching methods. So it's essentially a PBL course.
It is also integrated.

It uses lectures PBLs everything. It no longer is just PBL so you can't call it PBL based...

Integrated means combing pre clinical knowledge with clinical skills...so it's not two distinct phases

They've put it in their prospectus as a bonus, so it must be a good thing if you mention it...maybe they mean early patient contact in terms of practising clinical skills with actors + the few visits they get to A&E wards and GPs?

Do you mind clarifying what the PBL situation is? I've heard from a few people (and from the Glasgow medicine YouTube videos) that it's 100% PBL, 'teach yourself medicine'. But the website doesn't mention this, and a friend at Edinburgh says he heard that they've removed most of the PBL because it wasn't working out at all. I'm so confused!

I just dont think its a very good argument to make. Thus far I've been to a GP surgery once, spoken to volunteer patients once and am visiting A&E next week.

Compare this to dundee, for example, where they are on wards most afternoons - it isnt that much

It used to be like that. If first year is anything to go by, the PBL is the bulk of your work for the week and it is then supplemented by lectures, dissections, labs and other group work.
