Glasgow vs Aberdeen vs Dundee Medicine

Hello everyone,

I am fortunate to have received offers for three medical schools: Aberdeen, Glasgow and Dundee. I am not sure what I am leaning towards so would appreciate anyones input.

For context, I am currently at school in Aberdeen. The conditions for each are, CC for Aberdeen, BBC for Glasgow and BBB for Dundee. Additionally, Aberdeen have offered me a free years accommodation if I firm it. Aberdeen sounds like a no brainer, but I am just not sure I can spend the next 5/6 years here. I have a difficult relationship with my parents so would rather go further away. Plus the city is just so depressing

My boyfriend of nearly two years is also planning to accept an offer from Glasgow, and I don't want to do long distance.

Just looking for anyones advice, any current medical students at any of the schools if you could explain your reasons for choosing it, I would really appreciate it. Or anyone really. If anyone has any experience with long distance and if its possible I'd love to hear it too.

Thanks so much!!!)

Hi, this is the University of Aberdeen rep account. Congratulations on all of your offers! I hope you're able to get in contact with some medical students for their thoughts but I just wanted to chime in with some advice on making a decision.

I would recommend having a look around this site for students of each of the unis you have offers from to see what the general consensus is. It can also be a good idea to have a look on each of our websites to see what appeals to you about the courses eg. course content, projects/placements you will get to do through your degree, prospects upon graduation, that sort of thing.

For you though it sounds like the biggest factor is location, and it's perfectly understandable to want to use uni as a chance to give yourself some space from your parents! Going to uni in a new city can be a really formative experience and lets you gain a bit of independence. Realise this will be mixed up with the factors for staying you mention above, but don't dismiss going to a new city especially if you are confident in achieving your conditions. Be sure that you make the decision you are happiest with.

If you're able it would be a great idea to visit the other universities you have offers for, and if not just get in contact with all three with any questions you might have. This might make comparing them a bit easier of you can find what about the courses in particular are important to you and find out how these differ between universities.

I hope this information has been useful and all the best with coming to a decision!
