Literally the first sentence in this thread shows that that's not true...

My bad. I saw a graph by the Economist and thought white people achieved the least but that isn't the case.ECONOMIST.png

Source?

The HDI (human development index) measures the quality of life of every country on earth relative to each other. In 2014 the UK had the 14th best quality of life in the world, whereas South Africa wasn't even in the top 100.

I think it's pretty clear that South Africa is not "on a par with the UK for quality of life".

Ohh please, are you gonna believe everything you research on wikipedia???

Also the concept of HDI was developed by western countries. Therefore it will obviously biased to western countries. So what if a country doesn't have strong economy at least it looks after its people and veterans/servicemen compared to the UK which has a bad track record

Or (a close subsidiary of) the UN's website?

TMW it was a Pakistani economist that developed the (human development) index.

You need to check the date of the data properly, you Fob.
You need a recent example to prove your point preferrably 2014-15

Nigerians are really clever in my experience.

African-born immigrants are known to be the most educated in the USA and have even higher average incomes than White, African-American, Asian-American and Hispanic-Americans in the USA. They are known as an "invisible model minority".

Anyone remember the Ghanian-American who got accepted to the whole Ivy League?

You'd also be wrong

In what way?

Well, i am only speaking from experience, some Africans had it hard and know how blessed they are to be in a country with free education in contrast to British born/breed whites who think they are too "cool" for school and end up bunking as well as smoking weed every now and then because they are on benefits and rely soley on that.

It was still a prejudiced statement. It's like saying that, just because a few refugees are committing sex crimes in Germany, they must all be rapists.

It was a racist statement.

I'm Black Caribbean and I'd say I've been reasonably successful thus far in education (I am a 1st year medic.) The fact we are still at the bottom in terms of educational success does sadden me though, although I believe the white working class achieves the lowest GCSE results when class is taken into account too.

I would say success in education is fundamentally, but not fully, down to the emphasis put on the value of education and the parents perseverance in ensuring their child fulfills their academic ability. My parents up to today are relentless in ensuring I work hard to achieve my academic goals and achieve the best results I can.

A higher proportion of Black African and Asian parents seem to possess this mindset of great emphasis on importance of education and high educational expectations, therefore their children mostly do very well. Of course, not all Africans and Asians do well and I'm not saying no white or Caribbean parents care deeply about their child's education. I'm saying, on the whole, that their parents deem education to be vital to success and they parent accordingly based on that belief. That is reflected in the stats in the OP.

Anyway, tbh I don't care what race or class you are or what the stats say. Whatever you are, if you work hard then you will achieve regardless of your race or economic status.
No doubt the English are the true underclass now. The only real excluded minority in this country imo.

I think it's partly becasue any Sub Saharan African who can actually afford to immigrate is probably really well off.

seychelles is a bunch of islands with a total population of 90,000...

GDP per capita of UK: $42,000; GDP per capita of Seychelles: $16,000.

UK has the 14th highest HDI (human development index - quality of life index) in the world with an HDI of 0.907, Seychelles are 64th with a HDI of 0.772.

So no, not 'comparable' (and this is without even mentioning levels of opportunity in each 'country'....).

GDP does not necessarily equate to "quality of life" House prices I get be considerably lower for instance

Your quality of life is higher in the north of England than the south of England, despite wages being slightly less. House prices are much much cheaper and you have more disposable income. The air is also cleaner up north.

HDI however is a valid measurement

But the UK is still better. In your own words, there was something worse back home. You lied. You lost.

You must be some ignorant white bloke. I doubt you have even gone outside UK. And you honestly think UK is better than any other country. Wouldn't be surprised if you grew up in a council flat and that's the life you think is good. You haven't even been to any African country, stfu. Africa is not what you see on TV. "Donate 3 pounds. This child has no food, water and no where to sleep."

Stupid British people. You don't even care about your own country first. There are children here as well starving on the streets, living on drugs, who ran away from home. You're busy advertising for people back in Africa instead of working on your own country first.

Whilst I agree that Africa isn't the absolute hell hole people portray it as, poverty is still very real.

As an African this offends me, it implies I did well at GCSE English because 'there was something worse back home', that is not the case at all. My home country is perfectly fine.

Original post by Dinasaurus
It offends me because it stereotypes Africa as 'poor' or I should be lucky to be in Britain to have these opportunities, not all African countries are places of famine or negativity.

Your comments quite meaningless, as you didn't say which country you're from, and Africa is a continent, quite a lot of it is famine-stricken, unfortunately.
