Academic uni or slightly less academic with nightlife?

I'm having a major dilemma at the moment; uni decisions. I've already confirmed my insurance, but choosing my firm is proving to be very difficult. In terms of the requirements they are both exactly the same, and the courses are both literally of the same level of interest to me. (I want to study english lit and italian btw)

I first visited warwick uni and loved it, yet when I visited again at the applicant day, I just didn't get that butterfly feeling again. I was really set on it being the one, yet I don't know, not to be offensive at all because Warwick is amazing, but I also love nightlife and socialising. While I've read many blogs and threads talking about how there is nightlife there, so long as you look for it, I've heard that the ratings for student satisfaction within nightlife are some of the lowest.

So heres my dilemma:

Do I still choose Warwick, have less nights out and focus on my studies (I know it all sounds well and good but I just feel like after a 4 year course I will be incredibly bored), or do I choose Birmingham; a comparatively academic course (just one position lower in the rankings) and have the campus and city vibe, but the chance that employability will be lower at the end??

Someone pls help?????

I live very close to Warwick uni + have experience with its students - the nightlife definitely exists, so I'm not sure where you got that misconception (in fact, there was an article in the paper the othe day about how drunk everyone was getting hahaha). Birmingham is such a contained uni that I can't imagine it having a better night life than Warwick ?

Besides, at the end of the day, it's the course that matters most. You're there and paying to be there to study for 4 years and get a good degree, not go out clubbing every night (altho no harm if you can do both :wink:). Choose the better course and bettet uni academic-wise for you.

(Also a note - if you think you'll be bored after 4 years you may not be studying the right course tbh. You should be passionate about it!)

If {
Warwick
("Good")
}
Else {
"Waste of 50k"
}
As someone who visited both of these for a similar course (English lit and creative writing) I didn't even bother to apply for Warwick.

Birmingham has a much nicer vibe, a way less ugly campus and far better night life. The issue with Warwick is that it's in the arse end of nowhere! You've got to travel to the nearest town/city to do anything. I'd definitely pick Birmingham as, especially to me, it seems a far better place
Birmingham is a brilliant uni aswell. however if you want to do law or something in the city then i would head to warwick because some of the students there are very targeted by companies. Birmingham is a top uni and well respected aswell so its up to you really. Coming from near coventry, there is some good nights like kasbah, if you like bars then leamington will be better but you have some places in cov that are alright. Birmingham isnt far at all from there either

thanks for the advice, Im just in a position where I know that Warwick is the better uni academically but I am concerned about nightlife; I know people who go there and say you really have to go out of your way??? ahh! guess its down to laying dow their qualities and comparing them.

I had the butterflies when I originally visited my firm, I got in and a year later, I moved unis! So ya never know!

If you are a social butterfly and likes to party a few times a week, and this is one of the main aspects of going to uni to get the whole "uni experience" then I recommend Birmingham. I'm from there and I haven't actually been on a student night out, but there's a dozen places you can go to! I haven't explored much of its nightlife but from what I've heard, it's quite good!

Think about the course itself, the uni (facilities, their union, resources such as books), living costs, student accommodation costs, how expensive will be trips back home will be, what's 2nd/3rd year housing like, etc.

I hope you make the right decision, good luck!
