Film, Photography and Media 2016/17

I wondered if anyone has applied for this course and is looking to start in September? I have a conditional offer and it's going to be my firm choice, it'd be nice to meet people taking this course too!

Hi, I just want to ask you about the film course. How is the facilities there? I'm interest in TV production is this the right course for me? I got an offer from LCC but I can't afford them so do you suggest Leeds or other places? I'm an international student by the way. Do you know anything about the foundation course for media because I think I would have to take them. Sorry for asking so much. Thank you in advance hope you answer

It turns out that TSR is terrible about giving notifications, I only hope my message isn't too late! The facilities are excellent, a recently installed basement have edit pods which are brilliant, there's a fully kitted out Television/photography studio, a radio studio, several edit rooms, it's own cinema and a reasonable supply of equipment. As the name of the course suggests - it's not geared towards television production. If you want that, the broadcast journalism course does a lot more television work. However it obviously has a major journalism aspect to it as well.

Simply, the first year of FP&M is 1/3 media and communication, 1/2 film (Screenwriting, Camera and Editing, FIlm History) and 1/4 photography with more opportunities to specialise in the second and third years (a couple modules offer television). I don't know anything about the foundation courses but there is an 'access to leeds' programme which allows students with lower grades to attend the course.

In terms of television or radio, while the course doesn't teach that, there are excellent societies - LSR and LSTV which peform incredibly well at national awards. LSR has 2 full radio studio set ups broadcasting from 9am to late every day and LSTV regularly broadcasts on local television as well as covering sports (Leeds Varsity), culture and music (Leeds Fest), news allongside comedy programmes and short films which all come together into a bi-weekly live broadcast. Both societies are incredibly inclusive for anyone to have their own show on LSR or get involved in making content at LSTV. I'm involved in both of them and would recommend them hugely.

The course is ultimatley not geared at television however. If television drama is your thing then this course would be excellent, if its other forms of television, particularly live content - this course will not give you the appropriate skills (even if LSTV can supplement them a little). I've heard great things about Lincoln's Film and Television course and the courses at York and Bournemouth.

Sorry for the late response, I hope that helps!
Hi

I really want to take this course but I don't think my grades will be considered, I was just wondering what grades you got at A level for this course and how strict they are with their entry requirements.
thanks
