Does anyone know if there are salary increases in the 4 years? And if so what they are?

There's normally a 2 year mid-point which for London is circa £35k.

After 4 years and successful completion your on G7 salary range which is circa £54k for London, I think its £49k nationally.

This would be because its a graduate/training programme.

It normally takes 2 years to train a HO.

But the H/O roles that were advertised recently asked for no prior experience or knowledge either. Obviously TSP will quickly overtake the H/O roles in salary significantly but it just seems odd for the starting salary to be so much lower.

Not really, the first 2 years tends to be cross tax training and is very much focused on giving a broad knowledge and varied experience.

In contrast most HO's will have evidence of competencies showing them as effective at that level already. They will then do an individualized learning programme to fill in gaps in knowledge (if internal) or give them a comprehensive understanding of a specific tax regime (external). Most people I know who have done ILP's have been up and running far quicker than other trainees and had less generous study arrangements.

Just filled in my Health Record declaration and I'm now very worried. Along with a day here and there with general sickness I've had a major operation that required 8 weeks off work. Is this likely to be an issue do people think? :/
I wouldn't worry - its justified to be off if you've had an op.
The placement exercise is an interesting topic - based on the fact it has taken ages to get to this point, you think that something must have been happening behind the scenes, as the actual scoring of candidates would have been pretty quick I'd have thought. They were getting through a lotof people in a short time so I would have thought you would have been scored pretty quickly, so totting that up into a final result wouldn't take a longtime. For example, I attended a similar assessment centre and was told the next day I hadn't made it. (I didn't steal anything on the way out.)
They said this on Facebook:

Question of the Day - When will I hear about my placement and are all candidates treatedthe same during the placement exercise?
Answer-Following your Stage 3 result letter, you will be informed of your placementand the location that you have been allocated. All places regardless of whether you are an external, OGD or internal candidate are offered on strict merit order basis. Provisional offers are usually issued towards the end of April /early May. You will be asked to accept or decline your placement. If youaccept, our team in HRCSR will commence your pre employment checks. Preemployment checks do differ between external, OGD and internal candidates.

However,as has been said REPEATEDLY "places regardless of whether you are anexternal, OGD or internal candidate are offered on strict merit order basis". So if you rank highest you get lots of choice, and less, and less, and if you are 200th you get the dregs.

If you say ranked number 99 and only wanted London, but London wasn'tavailable, that would mean you might get offered elsewhere, although you hadn'tput that down. I appreciate that may be different to what other have been told but again "places regardless of whether you are an external, OGD orinternal candidate are offered on strict merit order basis". So you shouldbe offered, otherwise that isn't fair and if there's one thing HR worry about its equality.

A mate of mine who is on it (started couple of years back) put X first choice and in his confirmatory email they said he had X- he wasn't given the chance to reorder. So I assume if hewas say 132nd, they looked at him 132nd and checked if X was available -it was so he went in there. As it were a big game of connect 4 and each columnwas a location - keep topping them up until they are all full.

Fear not mon petals as he also said some offers get turned down - a lad he knows was offered somewhere but it was miles from home, so when he rang and said 'can youhelp me', it turned out a spot had come up closer to him because an offer had been turned down, so he went in there. Remembering that some people will have several job offers at this point and you cant accept them all.

Asfor me I'm off to make a t-shirt with 'merit order basis' written on it - lookout for me at the get together in June.

We were clearly told we would only be considered for a location if we had it down as an option. I don't see how they would offer us a location just because we ranked in the top 200 despite not picking it as an option
If that exercise was taking place why wouldn't they have let us known where we have been allocated?
I mean - if what you say is true, then we have all already been placed? But they say that information might not be released until later in the month? (So the decision is made...we're just not telling you?)

The graduate training schemes are pitched at HEO level at entry. They're referred to as either "HEO -Development" or Band T. They used to be pitched to the HEO starting salary but over the years the HEO grade starting has received small increases while the HEO-D or Band T grade has remained static - hence widening the gap. All that aside - it's only for two years that you will have this disparity. And the longer term prospects of your training scheme are significantly stronger than those of a standard HEO role.

How do you think it will work for last years interns? It says on the intern job advert that if the internship goes well they will be offered a place on next years TSP graduate programme. I wonder if it will go on the scores from the previous years AC or whether they will be given their top choice location due to them having actually completed the internship?
Strange there's actually been only 2 people mention on here that they were unsuccessful, plus 2 on reserve (including myself). Thought there would have been a higher proportion.. unless people are keeping quiet hmm.

Hi, I'm an internal candidate at HO grade and am just wondering if anyone knows why happens regarding salary and exams? Do we go down to band T or remain on our current and do our exams lead to exemptions?

To be expected, little to be gained from staying involved if you've been rejected and, as we all know, TSR custodians are in the elite bracket of society.

Band T is considered higher than HO, so it is considered a promotion. Regarding pay, you will not lose pay. If your current salary is higher than the starting point, you keep your current salary on Band T, until the pay catches up, usually at the mid point

That's good to hear, although I am not getting my hopes up. What locations do you have down?

Leeds and Liverpool. What about you? Yeah, I do not seem to understand how the reserve pool were successful the previous years

I've only put Newcastle so think my chances are slim. Well some people will get other job offers that they consider to be superior, especially if they don't get the location they want. I am slightly confused as to how they have deemed who was successful, whether they have already factored in locations (but then why not tell people already) or if they have just selected the top 200 of those who passed the standard (seems daft). Although the latter case could bode well for us reserves :-) by the way everyone did I mention what an awful place Newcastle is? So cold you don't want to relocate here! :-P
