Can't see the shortcut that the mark scheme used (SUVAT equations M1)

Howdy :smile:.

I am looking at part (c). I worked it out by calculating the total distance of each stage then added them together. So stage 1 to 2 is 30m; 2 to 3 is 40m and stage 3 to rest is 62.5m.

I can't see the quicker way of how the mark scheme answered it. As this would have saved me some time.

Can someone show how they got their answer please?

Look at your graph, the area underneath the graph is a trapezium. What is the area of a trapezium?

1/2 * (sum of parallel sides) * height.

Can you identity the lengths of the parallel sides of the trapezium from the graph as well as the height?

Ah, so the area underneath the graph gives the total distance travelled.

Now I can see that (1/2)(4 + 22.5)10 gives 132.5m
