Hey!!

So... I'm in year 12 I take maths, geography, economics and sociology for AS.
I know that some university's only ask for maths for some engineering courses like civil engineering. I wanted to know if maths is enough to apply for some engineering courses or will they not consider me because I'm not taking physics?

Many Thanks

I'm afraid you have made bad A level choices there for engineering. Maths and physics are usual requirements, universities would be cautious without these. Sorry 😔

It's okay, thank you!

Check the entry requirements for the universities/courses you are interested in; they'll state whether you need physics as well as maths (and chemistry is you're interested in chemical engineering).

You will be a slightly stronger position if you are doing M1 & M2 in your Maths A-level.

As others have said, check the universities requirements for the specialisation you are interested in.

There's also the option to add an extra year and do a Foundation.

Hi there, Nottingham accept Maths and Geography for Civil Engineering for example. If you want to widen your chances you can always self study M1 and M2 which you would find useful. This is assuming you're not covering these within your Maths A level ?? Good luck
It's just like the others have said : )

The cards aren't off the table yet, you still do have opportunities for studying engineering.

If anything, then you're in a better position by doing maths as opposed to taking physics and not maths.

You'll need to check the entry requirements. Some universities, while cautious, will still consider you if you don't take physics, some unis would like you to have done M1 & M2, some unis offer a foundation year if you didn't take the correct subjects, or other unis (like Sheffield, I think) offer a 4 week intense physics course for those who didn't take it at A-level just before the start date of your course so that you can have a better level of understanding and you aren't disadvantaged.

Despite not taking physics, you'll be fairly surprised at how many options are available to study engineering.

Some unis only require maths ! hope you were able to become an engineer because I want to do engineering but am not taking physics to keep my options open!
