Is it right that a tory MP and Mo Farah are banned from the US now?
Original post by VV Cephei A
6 out of 7 countries on the ban list are active war zones. Which means they have unstable governments, poor infrastructure, and consequently poor documentation of their citizens, undermining any vetting process that might be employed during their immigration to the US.

For the most part, we have no idea who the people coming over from these countries are. Sure, most may be good people fleeing a conflict, but until there is a reliable way to evaluate the background of these individuals, it's anyone's guess.

That's what this ban is about. Temporarily limiting immigration from countries where it is difficult to assess citizens prior to granting them legal entry to the US, until measures have been implemented to do this.

It has nothing to do with "Muslims". Out of the 10 countries with the highest Muslim populations in the world, only one is on this list.

Are you American btw?

1. Hasnt this been the situation for a long time though? the fact that these countries have been in turmoil? Why havent they figured out a way to vet people before this? Surely they have experience betting people from wartorn countries? If heres one country that should know how to vet immigrants it is the USA.

Isnt a lot of that turmoil in these countries in part due to US intervention?

2. If its about the country being a war zone then why ban people from these countries who are actually from EU countries including the UK? Dont you think we are able to vet our own people. One of them is an MP for goodness sake.

3. How many terrorists in the US have actually been refugees?

4. How many terrorists were from these countries?

5. Wouldnt it be more sensible to ban nationals from countries who have produces terrorists that have attacked the US if you are going down that route? Why miss out contries like Saudi, UAE, Egypt? Even Afghanistan and Pakistan?

The US has an absolute right to deicde its own immigration policy, its just that if the aim os to combat terrorism that threatens the US, then this is a strange way of going about it with massive flaws.

Are you sure?

Are you sure?

Yes.

Nadem Zahawi is Iranian and thus not allowed into the USA. That's a Tory MP. Farah is Somalian and not allowed into the USA.

Thank goodness for this ban. Banning MPs and Olympic gold medalists will keep America safe...
Look it's very simple, trump wouldn't be doing this had

A) Bush not planned and executed 9/11 and declared war on terror, unsurprisingly after 9/11 bush and his administration drew up a list of countries to 'intervene in', guess which countries, that's right the same 7 countries trump just barred people from entering into the US

B) Obama done his ****ing job and obliterate ISIS and left syria the **** alone so they can have there civil war, rather than support them and 'moderate rebels' who are terrorists in an illegal coup against Assad

Hold on, aren't they both British citizens?

They have dual nationality and the ban applies to those with dual nationality.

Here's Nadem Zahawi's take: http://www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/iraqiborn-mp-nadhim-zahawi-says-donald-trumps-ban-on-entering-us-is-demeaning-a3452576.html

So the ban is preventing our elected MP from going to the USA...
This is so True! At the end of the day the money spent on these refugees is coming from the pocket of Americans.
Why don't Gulf countries stop becoming so arrogant and stupid and take their "Muslim Brothers" from Syria.
It's getting out of hand

Dual nationality, i didn't know that.

The ban is working how it should then, these particular two are not prepared to commit their loyalty to Britain for some reason...................highly suspect.

Please don't tell me Farah won gold for Britain, he won it for himself.

The ****er should be deported for promoting Quorn, regardless of anything else.

Temporarily froze applications from Iraqi refugees, which take around 2 years anyway. Which is completely different to flat out banning people from certain countries, including current visa and green card holders.

Was it explicitly for 6 months, or was 6 months merely how long it lasted, the two are very distinct.

Can you link me with evidence.
If this is the case I disagree the way with which the ban is being carried out. It's so dumb if this is the case!

Yes but their origins are from Somalia and Iran respectively.

If I'd have been planning to do it, then a lot of these things could have veen avoided.

The additional danger of alienating people from these countries is you make it a lot more dangerous abroad for US citizens. The terrorist loons cna just use it as further propaganda. If he was being consistent then he would have absolutely banned dealings with Saudi. OBL was Saudi.

Any determined terrorists is just going to get forged documents or they will just radicalise people already in the US.

FFS, millions of people have dual nationality... You can be born in one country and reside in an other...

So you support our Conservative MP not being allowed to go America?

I am not bothered what their origins are.

If they are not prepared to commit to Britain 100% they should go home, obviously they do not consider Britain as home.

US citizens are in danger in Muslim countries now.

US Muslims are being radicalised now.

Thanks to Obama and the left the US southern border has been open to terrorists for the last 8 years.

Here's the full text. The ban applies to people with dual nationality. Hence our Iraqi MP, Nadem Zahawi, the conservative, is not allowed to go and see his sons in America.

Iraqi interpreters, who worked FOR the USA army will now not be allowed into the USA...

100%

Further to that, why the hell is he allowed to sit in Parliament when he has dual nationality?
Original post by Len Goodman
It would be unfeasible in terms of time and cost to go through the list person by person granting exemptions to "non-dangerous" people.

Having a blanket ban is more simple and more efficient, and dual nationals like Farah should accept that it was the right thing to do.

Isn't one of the key aspects of western civilisation is if you don't like something your governments done you don't have to accept it? You have the right to protest, speak out, criticise and petition.

As evidenced a blanket ban has not been simple because it was unclear, rushed and the people who actually had to implemented had no idea what they actually had to do, and there's nothing to suggest it will be effective for instance, none of the 9/11 bombers came from any of the countries currently affected by Trumps proposal, neither did the boston bomber, the Orlando club shooting was native to the US, as was the shooter in Fort Lauderdale.

You wouldn't even need to go person by person, you could just exempt people who are US citizens or have duel nationality or you could think of a strategy that might actualy work, but why do that when you can make a big show of pandering to bigots who don't like brown people who speak foreign.
