PGCE 2018 - Uni of Warwick

Hi. I'm doing the University-led course for English PGCE. I have to just pass my Numeracy skills test and complete my degree. Anyone planning to stay at the University Accommodation? I need some help finding somewhere to stay during my PGCE- any help would be much appreciated by anyone!

Hi - sorry you haven't had a response to this yet. I'm just going to bump the thread in the hope that someone sees this and can help :h:

I won't be much help with the accomodation side as I'll be living at home but just wanted to say hi! I'll be doing the school led English course at Warwick; nice to finally see someone else on here

Hey!

Have you managed to find your placement yet? I'm just super unsure about the whole accommodation side. Hopefully after my deadlines I'll contact Warwick for some help. There aren't many threads for Warwick PGCE lol
Because I chose school led I'm doing my placement at one main school with a six week second placement after Christmas. I applied through the Woodrush Teaching School Alliance so I'll be training at Woodrush school in Wythall for the most part, not sure where I will be for second placement! Do you have to find your own placements or will they place you somewhere?

Are you moving far to be at Warwick? It's about an hour's drive for me in rush hour traffic but I think we'll only be there once a week so not too bad.

I'm having my first placement chosen for me. They mentioned I can recommend a place for my second placement (probably from their partnership schools). I live roughly just over an hours drive from the Campus- so still contemplating whether to live out or stay at home. I live near Sandwell.
My decision lies on where I'll get a school- could do with less financial stress
Hi, my name's Kate and I'm attending Warwick in September to do the Primary PGCE with the Special Needs Specialism. Is anyone also doing this? I have asked the university about accommodation but as I'm from a different university I'm having to wait until May/June to organise it. xx

Hi. Are you planning to live in the halls? I've noticed they also haven't updated their website for the accommodation details. I'm hoping to live with mature students- preferably all girls if I live in uni halls. Otherwise might be opting for a studio flat
As in off campus halls? I'm not entirely sure as I've heard that the halls can be more expensive and I'll be trying to save money. During the interview they said that we could choose an area I believe as I explained that I had a car and there for could travel from villages outside of Coventry etc! It'll be good once we have more information though.

Hey! Yeah I think off Campus sounds better. Your scenario is similar to mine. I'll be driving to and from placement(s)- so anything with parking sounds good to me lol.

Hi there, I'm doing thr PGCE in Secondary English in the University Core Stream. I'm glad to hear that other people are in the same position as me, I want to get my form for placements sent off as soon as possible but I still don't know about where I'm going to live. I know I'm not living at home, I'm from Lincoln, but I don't know whether to go with private or uni managed. Does anyone have any good resources for private accomodation?

Hey! Sorry for the late response.
They've updated their website, so you can do some research for accommodation.

I'm really confused as to HOW we organise our accommodation... it says we can choose but how do we decide? Do we need to organise off campus housing on here?

Hi.

For PGCE students the accommodation is off-campus.

Follow this link: https://warwick.ac.uk/services/accommodation/studentaccommodation/apply/18/new/pgce

You need to apply for accommodation using the link above.
You then reach a Warwick Accommodation login page which you'll need to register for (if you are not a current student at Warwick). Once you've followed the instructions and successfully registered, you'll need to submit an application for the accommodation options. The questions at the moment are quite simple, looking at what kind of personality you have, your weekly budget for the rent, what type of contract suits you and you then pick 3-4 options which you think suit you best. You then submit this application and wait for further details on the accommodation.

Different note but has anyone looked at the pre-course work yet?

Sadly I can't be much help on the accomodation front as I'll be living at home but I believe it's off campus accomodation you will need; I remember the course tutor talking to a candidate about it at interview.

Congrats on passing your skills test Mas7!
Congratulations mas7! I was so nervous about my maths!

amy13 - just had an email from my placement school to say I should have received a pack? When and in what format did this arrive - starting to panic!

Hi, I'm on a university led course so I don't know if its the same but mine was on the university of warwick PGCE offer holder page, for which I was sent a link to, but I believe there was the same sections for schools direct schools as well. Would you like me to send you the link so you can see if yours is on there?
Yes please that would be great  I think I should have received something because my placement has contacted me to ask if I had had anything through, which is concerning me in case I should have filled something in...

In terms of pre-course work, please someone assure me they don't expect us to read all those books/articles?!?!! Otherwise I might need to take out a preliminary loan!! :O
