Combined science grades

If I get a 3-4 in combined science gcse, have I passed
You have got 1 grade (the 4) but failed the other (the 3)

How do they actually come up with the 2 grades given there are 6 exams in 3 subjects. I've read the post on the website but don't understand it.
Triple science gets 3 grades, one for each science.
Double/combined science gets two grades by averaging out how well you did in all six papers.
Each paper you sit is roughly around 17% of your grades.
