Parking at Southampton?

Hi all, I'm moving in this Sunday to Montefiore 1 and am still unsure about parking.
I'm aware parking is allowed for the first week so term.

I'm starting as a postgraduate doing my MSc, do I quality for parking?
Am if so, am I right in thinking that I would need to pay approx £15 monthly to be able to park in halls?

Is there not free parking in the area that I could use?

My current home is in East London if it effects matters.

i was under the impression that you could only get a parking permit if you were disabled. But i might be wrong and i stayed in hartley grove not monte last year.
there is some free parking its just finding it, a lot requires permits in the residential bits. is there a particular reason why you need a car with you?

There is a small amount of parking at Monte for which you need a permit (priority for these is usually given to those with mobility issues though) and in the residential areas around Wessex Lane. It is also difficult and expensive to park in the city centre - unless you are likely to commute regularly outside Southampton, I would recommend leaving the car at home. Get a bike, or a bus pass.
