I have you know i shower twice a day and apply roll on frequently....

In the modern era, the hallmark of a successful club isn't in winning domestic titles, no. It's getting into and competing in Europe's finest competition, the Europa League. Our club has been set back and hurt immensely under the stewardship of Roy Hodgson. From 7th to mid-table mediocrity, many of us wondered how we could ever find ourselves competing against the illustrious likes of FK Rabotni?ki, Trabzonspor and FC Steaua Bucure?ti again. But those days of fear and doubt are gone, King Kenny is here.

Europe yearns for us. They yearn for the "Liverpool experience" (incidentally, I think we might be able to get that trademarked and extensively covered with LeBron James advertisements, but that's another matter). They yearn to see our fabulous players don the red shirt and play infront of almost half-full crowds at Anfield, and scintillating 0-0 victories away from home. They yearn for us, fellow reds. Let us indulge in their fantasies.

Now Kenny is here, long gone are the days of negative football. We might even return to the Rafa days of playing two defensive midfielders against weaker opposition, we can hope. But I think King Kenny has brighter plans for our club. Imagine utilizing Carraghers expertise as a long ball passing specialist with our new signing Carroll? We could tear apart European defences with this new incisive, attacking football. Of course, I'm overlooking one fatal flaw in our King's plan, there.

We aren't actually in Europe. And I suspect we won't be for some time. The dilemma we face is: Europe is just too easy to get into these days. How can it be that the likes of Spurs and City can finish higher than mighty Liverpool? How dare Birmingham win a domestic cup, we won one in 2006 don't you know! A FA conspiracy, no doubt. I suspect there may be a way for us to get into Europe some otherway, and I'll read UEFA's smallprint on their website, but in the meantime I think Kenny has a brilliant plan for us to re-emerge on the scene. Fair play to him.

That's right, fair play to him and fair play to the Fair Play League qualification process. While the likes of Chelsea go throwing around £50m to stop us gaining automatic qualification into Europe, they all overlooked one fatal flaw in their bullish plan: our good natured play. Under Kenny, we can utilise the tactic of non-committed challenges and #stayingonyourfeet to rise through the Fair Play League and earn us a European place. I can't wait to see Mr. Ferguson's smug grin wiped off his face when he hears we've got into Europe and gone out in the last 16. Further more i cannot wait until Kenny leads us to glory against the likes of Unirea urinecezi, Fk rabotnicki, the champions of kasakhstan, etc etc...

Europe needs to prepare themselves for us in the meantime. And dare I say it, us to them? Now before you shout me down, I understand that £35m on Carroll and £20m on Henderson are sound investments, but what we need is European pedigree to play European opponents, and we've sorely lacked that since Mascherano, Xabi and co were kicked out and moved on by the management against their wishes (I swear, they miss us! They're always talking about us to the press, the poor blighters). Step forward European-journeyman, Mr. John O'Shea.

You might say to me, "Parky, what possibly could O'Shea offer us, mighty Liverpool?", and I say: experience. I know, I know, he might struggle to displace the likes of Kelly, he might not be able to keep out an injured Agger, but the lad has experience. He's got 5 PL titles, 2 CLs and a Fifa Club World Cup medal to boot! A recognized international who can play along the back four, in goal and as a make-shift striker, surely he's worth a punt? Rumour has it he's on the market for £12m (including some other non-names), surely Kenny can work out a deal? £11m, Lucas and a packet of peanuts, perhaps? I believe this would help immeasurably to our re-emergence on the European scene. So friends, remember whist playing in the Champions league rejects cup next season. let us be lucky for the privelige to dine with europes "Elite" clubs..

Onwards and upwards, friends. We're the fourth most successful team in Europe, let nobody take that away from us.

YNWA.

me too here... too boring after a few lines.
My dear fellow fans, if you had taken time out of your schedules to read my posts i thought you would have found some truth, enlightenment or interest in some of them, The fact that you have not read my posts have deeply saddened me as their meanings extend deeper than what you see.

So i beg of you, take time and read what i said. You might come to acknowledge and come to terms with what i say.
Looks like we will miss out on our chance of getting Young...
Now hopefully Mcleish plays hardball over Downing to try and win over the Villa fans so we don't buy him either.

Although I'm not adverse to Downing as a left footed player who can cross the ball, I think there are better options out there who will improve us long term as first choice LW. He turns 27 in a months time and paying like £20mil isn't value for money imo. Rather get N'Zogbia for £10-12mil who has premier league experience. (Although I'd rather get Mata/Vargas )

Not worth the effort when you're such an obvious WUM to the point that your posts are embarrassing. Regardless of whether you're trying to be funny or not, it's a lot of **** you're spouting.

I'd rather go bang my head against a wall than try and get into a discussion.

I really want Downing now, and we were never in the race for Young after he said he wanted CL footy.

I think Downing could be great under Kenny. He's always been their standout player for me everytime we play them and will give us some much needed width and balance in the team.

I agree I'd prefer to also get Mata or Vargas. N'Zogbia would be a reasonable alternative, although I don't think he's the same mould as Downing.

Downing, as with most of the transfers we seem to be going for, seems overpriced to me. Although, no doubt he would be a much needed asset to the team.

Getting Clichy for £6m-£7m seems a good bit of business, given the current transfer market and the fact he's 25.
Meireles rumours are gathering pace. I don't think he'll be with us next season. Which is utterly ridiculous if you ask me.

I'm not sure if there is any truth behind the rumours tbh. If we are letting him go, it'll be so that we get good value out of him whilst his still 28 and get a younger Adam for a similar price.

Still, hope there's no truth in that one.

Surely not? What rumours have you seen? Like we don't need him with Henderson and possibly Adam, or he wants out, or what? He performed well imo, scored goals at important times and generally solid.

Would be sad to see him go

The rumours been around for about a week. Apparently the owners want to sell him now before he gets too old because he has fitness issues, he was the most subbed player in the prem last season. Been linked to Spain and Italy.

Here's the latest http://www.thenational.ae/sport/football/liverpool-refuse-juventus-melo-exchange-deal-for-meireles

I really hope we don't get Adam, we're crowded in CM and he really isn't as good as people think.

And its now in the metro: http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/football/867252-raul-meireles-up-for-sale-as-liverpool-name-juventus-their-price

IF we sold Raul for £15m+ I'd be happy to let him go.

For a midfielder who can't tackle to save his life, you want more than 5 goals from him.

That said, I'd rather he stayed and we moved on other inferior players first.
Modric can't tackle, and in the past 2 seasons has less assists in the Premier League than Alberto Aquilani, who played half a season! But they want £35m for him and he only got 3 goals.

I point to the games Raul didn't play, we needed him badly. Look at the Spurs game, we didn't turn up.
Maybe it is true then, it did seem a bit unusual for us to go splashing £16m on a center midfielder player in Henderson (who can also play right sided similar to Meireles did for us)

Haven't heard much on the Aqualani front, it seems he wants to stay in Italy though.

In terms of first term center midfield players we have:

Gerrard
Merieles
Lucas
Spearing
Henderson
Aqualani

If Kenny only intends to use these players in centre midfield rather than playing any of them out of position them the rumors seem feasible.

Kenny would prefer to have £15m to spend on another wide player by the looks of things.

I think he's a quality player, and selling him seems a bit naive.

I think we could cope without him though.

Modric makes them tick though, Raul doesn't make us tick.

That said, I'm not saying he's a bad player. He's a good player and had the most assists for LFC last season, but he's a luxury and has to compete with a fit, rejuvenated SG which he never had last season.

In an ideal world, we'd move on AA and CP and be left with Adam, Raul, Gerrard, Lucas, Henderson and Jay which gives us a pretty good good cover for all roles.

I'll be very disappointed to see Raul go, he's played well for us this season and when he was missing it was noticeable, the only thing I won't miss is his tackling or lack there of. I feel we'll be making a sizable profit on him if we do sell him this window. He's aging and won't be worth half as much as he is now in a season or two. If he does go I do think we'll be interested in another central midfielder, other than Adam, (a spanish U21 central midfielder will do fine ). Just hope we don't sell to Juve considering how much they ****ed us around over Aqua.
Reply 1059
I really hope that Raul does not leave - I think last year he wanted to play in England, and I hope that hasn't changed yet. Yes he should leave soon to get a profit, but I don't think right now - maybe in couple of seasons.

Gerrard is aging, Aqua likely to leave, leaving us with Lucas, Spearing, Hendo if Raul leaves, and Gerrard gets injured. We have enough CMs as it is, so can't really think that Adam would be useful here.
