By using the quadratic formula you get: -7+[(7)^2- 4 x 3 x -13]/2 x 3 = 1.22/ change the sign to a minus you get - 3.55. . . ([ ] = square root sign
guys, whats the answer for Q 15 on the first predicted paper?

Thats a link to something on a school server I think. You must upload the file to the internet.

continuation of mark scheme for earlier predicted paper:
12. y=0.02x or 1/50x.
13. 34.8degree's.
14. 1.96x10powerof8.
15. x=1.22 or x=-3.55.
16. y=4x-2.

a) 28.5m.
b) 352m.
18.
a) 9cm.
b) 8cm.

Did you get M=20L3M=20*L^3?

M = L^3. M=160. L = 2^3 which is 8. 160/8 = 20. Then times it by 3 which gets you 60!!!!!?

Can somebody please explain how you solve 3x + 7x - 13 = 0?

You have to use the quadratic equation which is given to you at the beginning of the paper and you just have to substitute the correct numbers into the equation (:

anything that is squared has area in it or has a 2 I think :confused::s-smilie:
^ what did you get for the proportion question?

TheFootyKing19 - I followed exactly what you said, and I still can't seem to get it right. When you put your numbers back into the equation, they do not work (equal 0).
i got 540 for the direct proportion one

Thy deffo do. Just change the sign

M = L^3. M=160. L = 2^3 which is 8. 160/8 = 20.

This part is right.

But you don't times this by three to get your answer - you need to cube 3 first because it is L cubed, not L.

3*3*3 = 27. 27*20 = 540.
Oooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhh aaaaaayyyyyeeeeeeee.

The quadratic formula is x=b±b24ac2ax = \dfrac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a} . That is if you have a quadratic of the form ax2+bx+c=0ax^2+bx+c=0 then you can calculate the two values of x using this forumla. I am almost certain that you are given this at the front of your exam paper and so that question is a really nice one to get provided you can use a calculator correctly.

Any other questions which anybody needs help with then do feel free to ask, I am more than happy to help. That goes for any GCSE maths question you need help with from any paper, provided you supply me the question :smile:

How do you do question 24?

As it's not trig, as there's no right angle (you can't make one as it's not isosceles).
You can't use a^2 = b^2 etc. as you don't want to find out a side;
And for the other one you need at least one angle.
