Options with Engineering Design degree?

Hello all,

I've been fortunate to have my uni fees paid for by my employer through the Open University. I'm interested in Engineering Design and will be enrolled on that course soon, which is 'almost' fully accredited by the IET as well.

My worry is that it covers a broad range of engineering, rather than focus on one discipline.
So, is it possible to focus my studies on a specific subject through a masters, or will that be too tough. Will future employers look negative on a degree that isn't specified? And would you suggest a field that has good uses for a design pathway?

Any other info or thoughts would be much appreciated.
