Few questions!

1. what do I bring with me?

2. is there a swimming pool near to the campus? or close by?

3. is there a skate park or bmx course on campus? or close by?

4. food/restaurants - is there a mcdonalds close by? or dominos pizza?

5. this seems a really dumb question, but is there a primark close by? lol

6. is it hard getting part time work down there?
Hi there- i'll try and answer some of your questions!

1. it depends on the course you are doing- you should get a list of materials/equipment to bring with you from your course leader. If you are living in Halls it will be different to living in private housing, but remember to bring clothes!

2. there is a swimming pool in Falmouth (Ships & Castles) and a lot of local hotels have pools that you can use as a member of the public

3. there's no skate park on campus, and i'm not the best person to answer this but there are plenty of people who skate/bmx in Falmouth and who should be able to tell you where the best places are- there are ramps in the park on Dracaena Avenue.

4. There's a Mcdonalds half way between Falmouth and Penryn- there's a bus stop right outside it. There's a Domino's pizza in Falmouth town centre.

5. There's no Primark in Cornwall!!! The nearest is Plymouth- I just checked with my office and everyone got grumpy about this- takes a while to get used to!

6. Part-time work is available, but as Falmouth is a holiday town a lot of it is seasonal and revolves around the tourist industry. Your best bet would be to get in touch with our careers service [email protected]

Hopefully some students will be available to answer your questions as well

thanks

Camilla
ps- remember to eat some fruit and veg too!

thank you so much for answering the questions for me!

yeah, getting used to no primark will be hard lol, but i think i can handle it with ebay on my side, and a 1hr journey by train to plymouth doesn't sound so bad if you ever did just want to get away to the big shops for a day.

is there any swimming pools in penryn? or are they just in falmouth? is it hard using the hotel ones, do they mind students? sorry, i'm just really into swimming... lol.

how long is it to falmouth from penryn by bus? and how much is it to use the bus service?

sorry to swamp you with questions
No problem!

There's no swimming pool in Penryn (a shame because that's where I live!) but the hotels are fine about students using the pools. A few of them have membership schemes so you can use their gym/pool and pay a monthly fee.

Ships & Castles: http://www.tempusleisure.org.uk/default.aspx?page=2 (catch the train to Falmouth Docks and walk) is the leisure centre
St Michaels hotel: http://www.stmichaelshotel.co.uk/ near to the campus in Falmouth- smallish pool but very nice, also steam room/sauna/jacuzzi
The Falmouth Hotel: http://www.falmouthhotel.com/ near to the beach and close to Falmouth Town train station
Merchants Manor: http://merchantsmanor.com/swimming/ on the end of Woodlane, near to the Falmouth campus and the bus stop

Falmouth- Penryn by bus is about 30mins (campus to campus) there are plenty of buses running during the day, in the evening they get a bit more spaced out. At the moment it's 60p for student's on the bus, from September this is going up to 80p, but you can buy books of tickets to use on the bus which mean it's just 70p a journey- this is much cheaper than paying full price so well worth remembering.

There's also a train that runs from Penryn- Truro for a couple of quid, or to Falmouth Town for under two quid. The Penryn station is right next to The Sidings student accomodation.

Hope some of this helps!

Camilla
